Blackmaw Hold

Blackmaw Hold is a World of Warcraft: Forever dungeon for levels 55 to 60 behind a long-sealed gate in Azshara: a great furbolg city where the Blackmaw clan fights a spreading corruption, with several routes and bosses, and tunnels that lead deeper, toward the Barrow Deeps raid.

Blackmaw Hold is a five-player dungeon for levels 55 to 60 in World of Warcraft: Forever, behind a gate in Azshara that players of the original game could stand before but never open. "A great furbolg city lies within," Nora Mills told the What's Next panel at BlizzCon on Sep 12, 2026, and its people "might be struggling to stave off some sort of corruption". Its tunnels "run deep and wind far into the mountain", and anyone who follows them "might find yourself in an entirely different kind of danger", which led her straight on to the raid The Barrow Deeps. Blizzard's dungeon article of Oct 20, 2026 calls it a max-level adventure with multiple routes and bosses. It opens with the game on Nov 4, 2026.

Setting and story

Blizzard's dungeon article of Oct 20, 2026 describes an enormous furbolg city past a long-sealed gate in Azshara. The Blackmaw clan is fighting a corruption that has spread through its groves and mountain tunnels; players push through several routes and bosses, and the deepest chambers may reveal "a path leading even farther below Azeroth". Unlike most of Forever's dungeons, the furbolgs here are not the enemy Blizzard names: the corruption is.

The corruption is not only Blackmaw's. Describing the Barrow Deeps, the night elves' prison below the earth, Mills said she had heard that "like the furbolgs of Blackmaw Hold, they may be dealing with some sort of corruption", and she warned that the raid needs "no less than 10" of a group's greatest adventurers. The Barrow Deeps is a 10-player raid for level 60 characters that unlocks on Dec 9, 2026, five weeks after launch, and it has three entrances; Blizzard has named Mount Hyjal as one of them.

Made by a fan of the gate

Blackmaw Hold was one encounter designer's favorite to build. Asked on the third WoW: Forever Podcast, on Oct 8, 2026, which dungeon or raid had been most fun to make, the designer, "a long-term WoW player", picked Blackmaw: "I remember being a kid" and going to Timbermaw Hold, "seeing that entrance and being like, 'Oh, what's behind here?'", and now getting to build it was "incredibly cool".

Where it fits

Blackmaw Hold is one of the two dungeons at the top of the leveling journey, with Shaper's Terrace (58 to 60). It comes after Alcaz Prison (48 to 53). Players reaching level 60 also have Mount Hyjal, the new level 60 zone, and from Dec 9, 2026 three raids: Hyjal Summit, The Barrow Deeps and Onyxia's Lair. One of the Barrow Deeps' three entrances connects through Blackmaw Hold, Blizzard's raid overview of Oct 20, 2026 says, with the others through Mount Hyjal and Winterspring (Blizzard). Blizzard has not named Blackmaw Hold's bosses or loot as of Oct 20, 2026. Across Forever, unique dungeon boss items are rare (blue) quality (see Dungeons).
