Alcaz Prison
Alcaz Prison is a World of Warcraft: Forever dungeon for levels 48 to 53 on Alcaz Island in Dustwallow Marsh: the island prison long rumored to have held King Varian Wrynn, closed in the original game, now open, with the Defias Brotherhood and the naga fighting inside.
Alcaz Prison is a five-player dungeon for levels 48 to 53 in World of Warcraft: Forever, inside the prison on Alcaz Island off Dustwallow Marsh in Kalimdor. At BlizzCon on Sep 12, 2026 Nora Mills explained why players may find it familiar: it is "rumored to be the place where the Defias once held high-ranking nobles for ransom", and "at one point even rumored to have held King Varian Wrynn himself". Players could visit the island in the original game "but we couldn't actually go inside"; in Forever they can. The Defias and the naga are already fighting each other inside, "so now would be an opportune time to move". It opens with the game on Nov 4, 2026.

Setting and story
Blizzard's dungeon article of Oct 20, 2026 adds little to the panel but frames it: rumors have long tied the island's prison to high-profile captives, King Varian Wrynn among them, but it has been closed off until now. Inside, the Defias Brotherhood and the naga are already fighting each other, and players explore the prison, face its inhabitants and uncover "new pieces of a familiar mystery". Blizzard has not said what that mystery is.
For players of the original game the prison was scenery: Alcaz Island could be visited, but, as Mills said, players "couldn't actually go inside". The Defias Brotherhood is the same faction players meet in Westfall and the Deadmines. Forever is set in Azeroth's first year, and Blizzard has not said how the prison's story connects to later events.
Where it fits
Alcaz Prison comes after Krol'dok Stronghold (40 to 45) and before the two level 55 to 60 dungeons, Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace. Blizzard recommended "a group's around level 48 to 53". The prison is the first of the three new dungeons in Kalimdor; the six before it are in the Eastern Kingdoms. Blizzard has not published its bosses or loot as of Oct 20, 2026, and the beta has not reached its level. Across Forever, unique dungeon boss items are rare (blue) quality (see Dungeons and Items and Stats).
