Ruins of Lordaeron
The Ruins of Lordaeron is a World of Warcraft: Forever dungeon for levels 15 to 20 in the ruined capital above the Undercity, where the Forsaken fight the Scourge and a necromancer, Rath'mael, the final boss. Almost all of it is outdoors; the Horde walks in, the Alliance has to sneak through Tirisfal Glades.
The Ruins of Lordaeron is a five-player dungeon for levels 15 to 20 in World of Warcraft: Forever, set in the ruined capital above the Undercity in Tirisfal Glades, and the Horde's first new dungeon. Blizzard's Launch Dungeons video of Oct 14, 2026 says it takes "one of Warcraft's most storied locations" and lets players explore it in depth: the whole dungeon plays out across the castle and its ruins, crawling with undead, almost entirely outdoors. Players clear the Scourge, free spirits bound to the ruins and end at "the necromancer at the heart of the dungeon", Rath'mael. It has been in the beta since Sep 17, 2026, and opens to all players at launch on Nov 4, 2026.

Setting and story
Blizzard introduced the dungeon on the What's Next panel at BlizzCon on Sep 12, 2026. Nora Mills recalled that the once great city of Lordaeron "was devastated by Arthas and his Scourge", and that the Forsaken have been hard at work restoring it among old family heirlooms and keepsakes "from loved ones who never made it out of the city in time". The Scourge still lurk in its darkest corners, a necromancer has moved in, and "all signs point to an attack on another city". Horde players of about levels 15 to 20 may help the Forsaken reclaim the ruins; Alliance players "may need to find a way to sneak in".
Blizzard's dungeon article of Oct 20, 2026 repeats the setup: the Forsaken are trying to reclaim their wrecked capital, personal mementos lie buried in Scourge-tainted rubble, and reports of a necromancer gathering power have drawn adventurers in to secure the ruins and confront the threat inside. The city's story runs through Forever's world too: Warcraft III Reforged's new campaign, Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom, tells of the fall of Lordaeron and the rise of the Undercity that lead into Forever, and Forsaken Paladins, a new pairing in Forever, train at Bandarion Keep in the same zone (see New Race and Class Combinations).
How it plays
The Ruins of Lordaeron is the showcase of Forever's new lighting. "Almost the whole dungeon sits outdoors," the Launch Dungeons video says, "so the moving light, the deep shadows and rolling fog are front and center", from the first pull to the last (see Graphics and Visuals). That changes tactics: in an exterior with moving shadows and fog, sightlines become a threat, and Blizzard's advice is to pull enemies to lit, open ground, which "keeps every enemy visible and your Healer out of trouble. Mostly."
It is also full of quests. Hammerdance, a guest on the third WoW: Forever Podcast on Oct 8, 2026, counted "like six quests" or four in the Ruins of Lordaeron for the Alliance and "seven or something like that" for the Horde, "a lot of quests in a low-level dungeon", and said the quest experience still felt good after the beta's changes. Blizzard raised the experience from dungeon kills by about 20% on Oct 8, and quests give the most experience the first time (see Leveling Guide).
The Alliance and the Ruins
The Ruins of Lordaeron is the Horde's mirror of Hall of Thanes. Blizzard's encounter designers said on the same podcast that the Alliance should have easy access to Hall of Thanes and the Horde to the Ruins, for the sake of the story in the world rather than faction parity, and they enjoy the "crazy emergent PvP that's happening outside of Ruins of Lordaeron" as Alliance groups try to get in: "it is hard for Alliance to get inside of that place and honestly it's fantastic." The dungeon is not Horde-only; Alliance players reach it through Tirisfal Glades, the Horde's territory.
Blizzard's own developers have made that trip. On the first WoW: Forever Podcast, on Sep 24, 2026, Josh Greenfield said that on his Alliance Druid he "snuck into Ruins of Lordaeron with an intrepid band of adventurers" during the beta.
Loot
Blizzard has not published the Ruins of Lordaeron's loot table. Across Forever, every dungeon boss's loot has been re-examined, unique boss items are rare (blue) quality, and uncommon and rare drops grant their appearance to every eligible looter, so nobody has to roll for a look alone (see Dungeons and Transmogrification).
