City of Dalaran
The City of Dalaran is a World of Warcraft: Forever dungeon for levels 28 to 33 in the Alterac Mountains: the Kirin Tor's barrier is down, magic is backfiring, and players earn the mages' trust with attunement quests from Southshore (Alliance) or Tarren Mill (Horde), then enter through the sewers. In the beta since Oct 8, 2026.
The City of Dalaran is a five-player dungeon for levels 28 to 33 in World of Warcraft: Forever, set in the mage city of the Kirin Tor in the Alterac Mountains, which players of the original game only ever saw as a purple dome. At BlizzCon on Sep 12, 2026 Nora Mills explained that the Kirin Tor had raised a barrier to hide their restoration of the city after Warcraft III, and "the barrier seems to be down": enchantments are backfiring, arcane constructs are going haywire, demonic energy is running rampant, and "there are cats everywhere". Players earn the Kirin Tor's trust through attunement quests, then enter through the sewers. "This isn't just a dungeon," she said: "there's a whole city to explore." It has been in the beta since Oct 8, 2026, and opens to everyone at launch on Nov 4, 2026.

Story and attunement
Blizzard's Launch Dungeons video of Oct 14, 2026 says players will travel to Dalaran "under less friendly circumstances than you might be used to": the Kirin Tor "don't trust outsiders yet", so entering the city means going in through the toxic Dalaran sewers, fighting up to the streets and "unlocking the city's quests from the inside".
Blizzard's dungeon article of Oct 20, 2026 names the attunement quests. Alliance players begin with "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore; Horde players begin with "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. With the mages' trust earned, a group enters through the sewers and chooses a route through the city toward the source of the disruption, with "multiple paths and encounters".
One way in, for both factions
The sewers were not the first plan. On the third WoW: Forever Podcast, on Oct 8, 2026, Blizzard's encounter designers said the original plan was for the Alliance and the Horde to enter Dalaran by different routes. They chose one way in, "just so we can make it feel like a much more cohesive story", because "it's just kind of cool to sneak in through the sewers", because it helps new players understand the route, and for "this awesome moment when you first come out of the sewers and you look up and you see Dalaran".
The two factions still see different things. There are "some unique quests for each one", and the stories differ before they "converge on the same big punctuation point". The designers also described the thrill of finally seeing the city after years of looking at the dome from Alterac and Southshore, including the spire of Dalaran sticking up when running up from Southshore.
What comes after the dungeon differs by faction. At Blizzard's Creator Showcase on Sep 12, 2026, encounter designer Jay Hartman revealed that the city belongs to the Alliance ("you are the only faction allowed in this city"), that completing the dungeon unlocks it, and that there is "some special stuff for mages". Blizzard has not said more about the city's services as of Oct 20, 2026.
Size and bosses
Dalaran is big but not a mega dungeon, the designers said: "a very compressed space that fits in a lot of content", in a place that was already bounded, without the breadth of Blackrock Depths. "There are other WoW Forever dungeons that are at least four times as big as Dalaran," they added, and the host noted "that's a lot of bosses in there". Blizzard has not named them.
Immunities
Dalaran was the first real test of Forever's rules on immunities. Beta testers playing Arcane Mages came to the designers saying "I can't hit anything", and the answer was the rule: creatures "should act like you think they act", so a robot cannot bleed and "this big arcane elemental probably should be immune to arcane". The designers keep that rule for dungeons, adding that even an Arcane Mage "has tools" to get through. Bring a group that does more than one kind of damage (see Best Class).
In the beta
Dalaran opened in the beta build of Oct 8, 2026, the same build that raised the experience from killing creatures in dungeons by about 20%. Before that, creators had played it on stage at BlizzCon: the Creator Showcase on Sep 12 introduced it as "absolutely exclusive, unshown, unrevealed", and the group playing it got separated and wiped once before finishing it (see BlizzCon 2026 Reveal).
There is more below the city than the dungeon uses. On the fourth WoW: Forever Podcast, on Oct 15, 2026, a developer pointed out that the Dalaran arena can be seen in the underbelly beneath the city: it is built, but "you can't get down there, but maybe someday you could".
The city itself is now a full part of the Alterac Mountains. Blizzard's graphics team said at BlizzCon that Dalaran is now fully present there instead of hidden in its purple bubble (see Graphics and Visuals).
Frequently asked questions
What level is the City of Dalaran dungeon in WoW Forever? Levels 28 to 33 in World of Warcraft: Forever.
How do I get into Dalaran in WoW Forever? Earn the Kirin Tor's trust with the attunement quests, then enter World of Warcraft: Forever's Dalaran through the sewers. Alliance players start with "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore; Horde players with "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill.
Can the Horde walk around Dalaran? No. Since the beta build of Oct 15, 2026, "Members of the Horde are no longer welcome in Dalaran under any circumstances and will be attacked on sight" in the open world, and the Horde quests for the Dalaran Sewer Key no longer give free run of the city. The dungeon is not affected.
Can the Horde do the Dalaran dungeon? Yes. Both factions enter the City of Dalaran dungeon the same way, through the sewers, with faction-specific quests that lead to the same ending.
Is Dalaran a mega dungeon? No, Blizzard's designers say: the City of Dalaran is a compressed space with many bosses, and other World of Warcraft: Forever dungeons are at least four times as big.
Why can't my Arcane Mage hit things in Dalaran? Arcane creatures in World of Warcraft: Forever resist Arcane damage on purpose; Blizzard says every Mage has other tools to get through.
Is the City of Dalaran in the beta? Yes, since the World of Warcraft: Forever beta build of Oct 8, 2026.
