Camping
Camping in World of Warcraft: Forever: the Basic Campfire that replaces the cooking fire, the vendors, repairs and one-hour buffs a campsite gives, the crafted objects each profession adds, and the upgraded campfires cooks can make.
Camping is a new open-world system in World of Warcraft: Forever that lets any player set up a campsite that others can use. On the What's Next panel at BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard's associate production director for WoW Classic and Forever described it as "doubling down on trade skills": almost anywhere in the open world a player can craft a campsite, other adventurers can stop by and use their own professions to add something to it, and everyone there shares the resulting buffs. Because players have to sit for a moment before any buff applies, he added, "maybe they just might talk to each other." Blizzard ties the system to its pillar of protecting the social experience, and it links closely to Professions, which make the objects placed at a camp.

The Basic Campfire
Blizzard explained the thinking at the start of its Deep Dive panel. A senior designer on the Forever team said that meeting another player of the same faction in the wild should be a welcome encounter, and that "serendipitous interactions" are the foundation of making friends in online games. To support them, the team reimagined the simple cooking fire as the Basic Campfire. Placing one creates a campsite where the player who built it, and anyone else, can rest and gain vendors, repairs, trade skill workspaces and, most importantly, buffs that last one hour.
The buffs are not instant. "Sometimes it's important to just slow down a bit," the designer said: to gain them, a player has to /sit by the campfire for a few moments before heading off again. Blizzard's written recap of the panel lists the same benefits: vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs.
Campsite objects
A Basic Campfire holds up to three special crafted objects placed by players. Each player can place one object, and each trade skill has its own objects, each with a unique buff or utility and each learned at a different skill level. Blizzard's recap says every profession has three different objects.
The panel gave three examples. Blacksmiths can place a Sharpening Wheel, Tailors a Faction Banner that increases Spirit, and Herbalists an Incense Candle that increases Intellect. On stage the Sharpening Wheel was described as a strength buff; Blizzard's written recap says it increases Attack Power. These buffs are variants of, and do not stack with, buffs that classes normally provide, such as a Paladin's Blessing of Might or a Mage's Arcane Intellect. The first objects are learned at only 20 skill points, and more advanced objects come from Blueprint recipes that players have to find on their adventures. Blizzard's recap also names an Alchemy Lab and a Tanning Rack among the objects.
The designer said the objects "add more depth and purpose to trade skills", that the team had been having "a ton of fun" with camping in internal testing, and that they were looking forward to seeing players sitting around fires in Elwynn Forest or Durotar getting ready for battle.
Camp features by profession
Blizzard's camping article of Oct 21, 2026 lists a first camp feature for each profession, every one at skill 20 except the Cooking campfire itself at skill 1. A simple quest early in the game introduces the system. Players sitting or crafting at a campsite for at least 1 minute gain the other features' benefits, all features share a 1-hour cooldown, and features that need skill 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids (Blizzard).
| Cooking | Basic Campfire (skill 1) | Allows cooking and up to 3 more camp features |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | 3 to 56 Stamina by level; exclusive with Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fishing Bowl | 8% increased stats; exclusive with Blessing of Kings |
| Alchemy | Mana Well | 10 to 29 Mana every 5 seconds by level; exclusive with Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | 6 to 34 Strength by level; exclusive with Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute | 28 to 260 Armor, up to 13 to all stats and up to 22 to all resistances; exclusive with Mark of the Wild |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot | Sells reagents to nearby players |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | 2 to 25 Intellect by level; exclusive with Arcane Intellect |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent | Raises Rested experience by 5% of a level, unless it is already higher |
| Skinning | Camp Chair | 2% critical strike chance with spells and attacks; exclusive with Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | 14 to 32 Spirit by level, for the placer's faction; exclusive with Divine Spirit |
The article gives the Sharpening Wheel as a Strength buff, as the panel did, where the earlier written recap said Attack Power. It also warns that a camp is not safe: danger can still find a resting party, and on a PvP ruleset enemy players may come upon the camp.
Upgraded campfires
Cooking has a special role. According to Blizzard's recap of the Deep Dive panel, cooks can learn upgraded campfires that allow five or 10 objects to be placed at a camp instead of three, so a camp built by a cook can gather more professions' buffs in one place. The same recap notes that crafted food has been adjusted to give stat boosts and a small experience bonus; see Professions.
Camping and Hardcore
On the "Go Again!" Hardcore panel, Blizzard's developers counted camping among the tools that will matter once the Hardcore ruleset arrives after launch: players can gather friends at a camp, pick up a few buffs and be "a little bit more durable" before heading into a dangerous cave together. Later in the same panel a developer listed the camping system again, beside new rare spawns, world drops and crafted items, as part of what makes Forever a problem to solve all over again.
How creators read it
MadSeasonShow, summarizing the announcements on Sep 14, 2026, called camps a nod to the survival profession that was abandoned during the original game's development, when players would carry torches and set up campfires to recover. As he understood it, anyone can build a camp rather than members of one profession, other players contribute according to their own professions, and the wait before the buff (which he estimated at about a minute) is there to encourage conversation, such as asking a stranger to team up for a quest.
Frequently asked questions
Who can build a campfire? Anyone with Cooking: the Basic Campfire is the Cooking profession's skill 1 feature, replacing the old cooking fire, and can be placed almost anywhere in the open world. Upgraded campfires with room for more objects are learned by cooks.
How do you get the campsite buffs? Sit or craft at the campsite for at least 1 minute. The buffs last one hour, and all camp features share a 1-hour cooldown.
How many objects can a camp hold? Up to three on a Basic Campfire, with each player placing one. Upgraded campfires made by cooks allow five or 10.
Do campsite buffs stack with class buffs? No. Blizzard says they are variants of class buffs such as Blessing of Might and Arcane Intellect and are exclusive with them.
Which professions make campsite objects? Every profession has three objects. Blizzard's examples are the Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel, the Tailor's Faction Banner and the Herbalist's Incense Candle, and its recap also names an Alchemy Lab and a Tanning Rack. Blizzard's Oct 21, 2026 article adds the First Aid Kit, Fishing Bowl, Mana Well, Enchanted Lute, Reagent Bot, Camp Tent and Camp Chair.
Is camping safe on a PvP server? No. Blizzard warns that on a PvP ruleset enemy players may come upon your camp.
