Professions
Professions in World of Warcraft: Forever: over 600 new recipes across every level range, reworked food with stat boosts and a small experience bonus, each profession's camp feature, Blueprint recipes, the beta's profession changes, the reagent bag slot, and the Legacy Tradeskills challenges and Professions tree.
World of Warcraft: Forever gives each character two primary professions and all three secondary ones, and adds over 600 new recipes to them. On Blizzard's Deep Dive panel at BlizzCon 2026, a senior designer said trade skills had "been given a massive amount of love": there are over 600 new recipes across all professions and level ranges, many existing recipes have been overhauled, and even at low levels a player should feel the impact of their profession choice and want to keep leveling it. Professions also supply the objects placed at campsites in the new Camping system, and one of the three Legacy trees is devoted to them.

Over 600 new recipes
Blizzard's written recap of the Deep Dive panel repeats the figure of over 600 new recipes across professions and level ranges. MadSeasonShow, summarizing the announcements on Sep 14, 2026, read the update as including balance changes so that far fewer characters end up as engineers at level 60, and said the new recipes appear to lean towards lower levels. He pointed to a common complaint about the original game: by the time a player could craft many items, quest rewards and dungeon drops were already better, so in Forever crafting should be "a bit more competitive".
GuideMMO, in a round-up of changes published on Sep 14, 2026, also counted more than 600 new items to craft and noted that many of the original craftable items have been updated.
Food and cooking
As a complement to camping, cooking and food have received what the designer called "a substantial overhaul". Almost all crafted food now gives some form of stat boost as well as a small experience buff, so that players "always want to go into battle well prepared and well fed". Philosophically, he said, the team wants trade skills to become an important part of progression, and it plans to keep adding new recipes, materials and crafted items as the game evolves.
GuideMMO put a number on the experience buff, saying food will increase experience gained from kills by 5%; Blizzard's own recap describes it only as a small experience bonus. MadSeasonShow added that food will offer a wider variety of stats instead of only stamina and a main stat.
Campsite objects and Blueprint recipes
Every profession can contribute to a campsite. Each trade skill has its own objects that give a unique buff or utility, learned at different skill levels: Blacksmiths place a Sharpening Wheel, Tailors a Faction Banner that increases Spirit, and Herbalists an Incense Candle that increases Intellect. The first objects are learned at only 20 skill points; more advanced ones come from Blueprint recipes that players have to find on their adventures, and Blizzard's recap says these advanced Blueprint recipes drop from dungeon bosses. The designer said the objects add "more depth and purpose to trade skills". Blizzard's recap adds that every profession has three objects, and that cooks can learn upgraded campfires that hold five or 10 objects; the whole system is described on Camping.
Blizzard's camping article of Oct 21, 2026 names each profession's first camp feature, all learned at skill 20 except the Cooking campfire itself at skill 1, and says features that need skill 140 or more drop in dungeons and raids. Most copy a class buff and do not stack with it:
| Cooking | Basic Campfire (skill 1), room for 3 more features |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit: Stamina, like Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fishing Bowl: 8% more stats, like Blessing of Kings |
| Alchemy | Mana Well: Mana every 5 seconds, like Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel: Strength, like Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute: Armor, stats and resistances, like Mark of the Wild |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot: sells reagents to nearby players |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle: Intellect, like Arcane Intellect |
| Mining | Lodestone, like Blessing of Might, according to Warcraft Tavern; Blizzard's article does not list it |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent: Rested experience, 5% of a level |
| Skinning | Camp Chair: 2% critical strike, like Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner: Spirit, like Divine Spirit |
The values by level are on Camping.
Changes in the beta
The beta's weekly development notes, posted by community manager Kaivax, tuned professions as testers leveled them:
- Oct 1, 2026. A Bind on Equip item with an uncollected appearance becomes soulbound when sold to a vendor. A number of Blacksmithing and Leatherworking recipes meant as random dungeon drops became available, crafted common and uncommon Enchanting wands now sell to vendors for 1 copper, there are fewer Poor Copper Vein nodes in the starting areas, and creatures can "once again only be skinned a single time before disappearing".
- Oct 8, 2026. Vendor prices of Enchanting items were set, from 5 copper for a Novice's Practice Wand to 25 silver for a Greater Eternal Wand, Armor Kits stopped granting double Ranged Attack Power, the Peace Tea recipe sells for 10 copper, and Enchant Weapon - Recovery works for shapeshifted Druids.
- Oct 15, 2026. "Many items created by professions have had their vendor sell price reduced", Draught of Predatory Senses became a Potion on the Combat Potion cooldown with a shorter duration, your own fishing bobber is always targetable, and the Tauren's Cultivation racial now needs a player level for each herb: the herb's Herbalism requirement divided by 5, and level 60 for herbs above 300 skill (see Races and Racials).
The lower vendor prices mean crafting is not a reliable way to turn materials into gold at a vendor; what a crafted item is worth depends on players who want it, on your own ruleset's market (Gold Guide). The Beta closed on Oct 23, 2026, and Blizzard has not posted launch patch notes as of Oct 31, 2026.
How professions work
Blizzard's starter guide of Oct 28, 2026 sets out the basics. Speak to a profession trainer in a starting area or major city, or ask a city guard for directions; K opens the Professions window, with your skill levels, recipes and materials. Campsites let others use profession-made benefits. Which to choose is on Best Professions.
Warcraft Tavern's guide, from the beta, gives the steps. These are its figures, not Blizzard's:
| Apprentice | Level 1 for gathering, 5 for crafting and secondary; skill up to 75 |
| Journeyman | Level 10 and skill 50; skill up to 150 |
| Expert | Level 20 and skill 125; skill up to 225 |
| Artisan | Level 35 and skill 200; skill up to 300 |
The same guide says there are no passive profession bonuses, as there were in later expansions; a primary profession can be unlearned from the Professions window at the cost of its progress; and each primary crafting profession has a title from the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) or Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde).
Legacy: Tradeskills challenges and the Professions tree
The account-wide Legacy system rewards professions twice. Reaching a particular skill level in a profession, such as Artisan Engineering, is one of the Legacy Challenges that earn points, and one of the three trees those points are spent in is Professions. Blizzard's example perk from that tree is Bountiful Harvest, which increases how many scarce materials a character gets from mining, herbalism or skinning.
Blizzard's Legacy guide of Sep 23, 2026 gives the numbers. The Tradeskills category holds 18 of the 65 Legacy Challenges: skill 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession, one point each, and reaching 150 in one of them is one of the ways to earn a first Legacy Point. The Professions tree's perks are Working Overtime (more skill-ups, Lockpicking included), Bountiful Harvest, Bartering (cheaper vendor items), Performance Bonus (more Merchant's Favor from the Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics), Master Chef, Luremaster and Dedicated Study, a daily cooldown that speeds up a profession.
Professions and Hardcore
On the "Go Again!" Hardcore panel, a developer explained why the trade skill changes matter to players who will choose the Hardcore ruleset once it arrives after launch. Hardcore players put in extra effort to stay safe, he said, and new recipes, new things to craft, new consumables and better food all give them more ways to be prepared, with "over 600 new crafting recipes" among them.
What players noticed
Riyani, drawing on what players saw in the BlizzCon demo in a video of Sep 13, 2026, reported that the reagent bag slot from modern WoW appears to have made it into the game, giving extra space for profession materials. With professions so prominent in Forever, he said, freeing up bag space "will be very welcomed". Warcraft Tavern's professions guide, written from the beta, confirms it: reagent bags have their own equipment slot beside the five basic bags, with small 4-slot gathering bags early on and a 6-slot Linen Reagent Bag made by Tailors. The same guide describes a separate Professions window, opened from the menu or with the K key, with search and filters, recipe tracking and links to a profession in chat; a starting-zone quest that offers Mining, Skinning or Herbalism; and the classic skill cap of 300.
