Gold Guide
Gold in World of Warcraft: Forever as of Oct 31, 2026: what Blizzard forbids (buying gold, GDKP raids, gold through a go-between), the Temporary Economy Hold, one auction house economy per ruleset, what the beta changed for gold farmers and vendors, what riding is reported to cost, and what is not known until launch.
Gold in World of Warcraft: Forever comes with one firm rule from Blizzard: earn it in the game and take it directly from the person you did something for, because gold that was bought, or that reaches you through a go-between, can cost you the gold and the account. On the Oct 8 podcast Josh Greenfield said Blizzard had closed over 2,100 accounts that bought gold on the Beta and almost 1,600 that sold it or botted for it. A tip for a potion, a portal or a craft is fine, he said; Blizzard has "gotten very good" at telling a legitimate trade from a bought one. No gold-per-hour figure can be trusted yet: testers stopped at level 30, and the live economy starts on Nov 4, 2026.
Quick facts

| Suspected accounts | A Temporary Economy Hold limits trade, mail, guild banks and the auction house (Blizzard, Oct 13, 2026) |
| Auction house | Kept apart between rulesets, as Blizzard described it on Oct 29, 2026 |
| Biggest reported cost | Journeyman Riding at level 60: 1,000 gold, per guide sites, not Blizzard |

What Blizzard forbids
Buying gold. Blizzard's Oct 1, 2026 post covers "generating, selling, buying, or receiving illicit gold", and says the action will continue "in both the Beta and the live game". Blizzard also said a warning would appear whenever you trade with strangers, telling you to be wary of gold from unknown or suspicious sources.
GDKP. A GDKP raid auctions its loot for gold and splits the pot. Asked on the Sep 17 Q&A, Greenfield said "the short answer is no, we are not going to allow GDKP", giving the traditional guild structure as the main reason, then the barrier for new players and the way such raids launder large sums, according to Icy Veins' transcription. Blizzard has not published how it will detect or punish GDKP in Forever as of Oct 31, 2026.
Gold through a go-between. On Oct 27, 2026 community manager Kaivax wrote "Gold Transactions Must Be Direct": accounts had been actioned after buying gold and having the seller deliver it to another player who gave them a service, such as a raid carry. Gold from an intermediate player "has an extremely high likelihood of being illicit gold", so the buyer should pay the provider directly, and guilds that take such gold risk having it removed.
That post sits in the General Discussion forum and names no version of the game, so it does not say "Forever" in so many words. Blizzard's Oct 1 stance is worded for "World of Warcraft" as a whole and its Oct 13 post promises its systems to every version, so the safe reading is that it applies to Forever too. That reading is ours.
The Temporary Economy Hold
An account suspected of selling or receiving illicit gold can lose the use of trade, mail, guild banks and the auction house until Blizzard has looked into it, Kaivax wrote on Oct 13, 2026. A hold found to be false lifts by itself and leaves no strike; Blizzard admits "there may be false positives while things are fine tuned". If it works, the system will go to all versions of World of Warcraft.
The auction house
Rulesets split the economy. Blizzard said on the Oct 29 podcast that when it weighed letting Normal and PvP mix, it was "probably not okay" to let the economy of a ruleset where farming is easier mingle with the others, so they stay "separate for now". It added that linking two rulesets' auction houses is something it would do only if a population could no longer sustain itself. So pick your ruleset knowing your gold and your market stay with it.
The beta's notes changed the auction house window only in small ways: item suffixes display correctly with their stats (Oct 1 and Oct 15), and there is a column for equippable level (Oct 15). Blizzard has announced no fee or listing changes as of Oct 31, 2026.
What the beta changed for farmers and vendors
Frost Mage dungeon farming was nerfed on purpose. Asked about Blizzard and Cone of Cold, a developer said "overwhelmingly" gold bots are Frost Mages kiting dungeons, "damaging the game's economy that we want to protect very deeply". A testing group still managed it after the Blizzard nerf, so Cone of Cold was cut by a couple of seconds as well. If your plan was to farm dungeon packs on a Mage, expect that to be watched.
The beta development notes also moved these, without saying why in each case:
- Oct 1. Crafted common and uncommon Enchanting wands sell to vendors for 1 copper, there are fewer Poor Copper Vein nodes in starter areas, creatures can "only be skinned a single time", and a Bind on Equip item with an uncollected appearance becomes soulbound when sold to a vendor.
- Oct 8. Vendor prices were set for Enchanting items: Greater Eternal Wand sells for 25 silver, Minor Wizard Oil for 1 silver, among others. Classic's looting behavior returned, so creatures that dropped nothing can still be interacted with.
- Oct 15. "Many items created by professions have had their vendor sell price reduced." Bartering stopped discounting training and repairs by mistake.
So crafting to sell to a vendor is not a plan; a crafted item is worth what another player pays. See Professions and Best Professions.
Consumables are the demand Blizzard is watching. A developer said on the Oct 8 podcast that the team is doing a lot to help the economy so that a raider's buffs are not "such a burden", and not something you sweat for 40 hours a week to do a three-hour raid. On the Sep 17 Q&A he promised to monitor the economy "very, very actively", saying Season of Discovery's level 60 economy settled well without GDKP because Blizzard was constantly managing the flow of resources.
What you will need gold for
Riding is the big one. Warcraft Tavern and Method both list 100 gold for Apprentice Riding at level 40 and 1,000 gold for Journeyman at level 60; Blizzard has confirmed only that the cost now sits on the training and has published no price. Beyond that, the sinks Blizzard has documented are talent resets, repairs after a death, and consumables. Legacy helps a little: Bartering makes vendor items cheaper, Bountiful Harvest gives extra scarce materials, and Reagent Economy removes class reagents.
What is not known yet
As of Oct 31, 2026, these wait for launch: which professions or activities earn the most at level 60, real auction house prices on each ruleset, final riding and talent reset prices, how GDKP will be enforced, and whether the trade warning shipped as worded. Figures on gold-selling and boosting sites are advertising, so they are left out here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make gold fast in WoW Forever? Nobody can say yet with evidence: the beta stopped at level 30 and the live market opens on Nov 4, 2026. Blizzard's own changes tell you what not to rely on: selling crafted goods to vendors and Frost Mage dungeon kiting.
Is GDKP allowed in WoW Forever? No. Josh Greenfield said "we are not going to allow GDKP" on the Sep 17, 2026 Q&A.
Can I pay gold for a carry in WoW Forever? Blizzard's Oct 27, 2026 post does not ban paying for a carry. It says gold should go directly from the buyer to the provider, and it does not name a version of the game.
Can I get banned for receiving gold? Yes, if it is illicit. Blizzard lists receiving alongside buying and selling, with gold removal, suspension or permanent closure as the outcomes.
What is a Temporary Economy Hold? A restriction on trade, mail, guild banks and the auction house while Blizzard investigates suspected real-money trading. If the suspicion is false it lifts and leaves no strike.
Do rulesets share an auction house? Blizzard described them on Oct 29, 2026 as kept apart for now, including the economy.
