Mounts and Riding
Mounts in World of Warcraft: Forever: the first at level 40 with the gold cost moved onto riding training, guide sites' reported 100 and 1,000 gold prices, the trainer for each race, Paladin and Warlock quests, store and Legacy mounts, and no flying.
Your first mount in World of Warcraft: Forever comes at level 40, and its gold cost now sits on riding training rather than on the mount, as in The Burning Crusade. Blizzard announced the shift at BlizzCon 2026, and lead Classic designer Tim Jones told Kotaku that "we're not giving someone free training for a mount when they hit level 40", because a mount should reflect "time and effort". Blizzard has published no price as of Oct 31, 2026. Warcraft Tavern and Method both list 100 gold, and neither could be checked in ordinary play since testers stopped at level 30.
Quick facts
| First mount | Level 40 (Kotaku) |
| Apprentice Riding | 100 gold, 60% speed (Warcraft Tavern, Method) |
| Journeyman Riding | Level 60, 1,000 gold, 100% speed (the same guides) |
| Epic mount | 200 gold (the same guides) |
| Discount | 10% at Honored with your home faction (Warcraft Tavern) |
| Flying | None |
| Blizzard's own prices | Not published as of Oct 31, 2026 |
What it costs
Blizzard counts the "change to riding skill" among Forever's additions, there "to preserve that classic moment when you finally earn your right to ride your first mount". Treat every price below as a guide site's report, not Blizzard's.
The guides differ on one detail. Warcraft Tavern's table lists 100 gold for training plus 20 gold for the mount. Method says the 100 gold includes your first mount and further colors cost 20 gold each. Method adds that a store mount still needs the riding skill, and that Bartering, a Legacy perk, takes up to 10% off mounts but not training. Blizzard's Oct 15, 2026 notes fit that: they fixed "an issue where Bartering was discounting training and repairing". Saving for it is on Gold Guide.
Where to train
As Warcraft Tavern and Method list them. Method says other races' vendors will not sell to you until you are Exalted with them.
| Human | Randal Hunter and Katie Hunter, Elwynn Forest (horses); Unger Statforth sells more in Menethil Harbor |
| Dwarf | Ultham Ironhorn and Veron Amberstill, Dun Morogh (rams) |
| Gnome | Binjy and Milli Featherwhistle, Dun Morogh (mechanostriders) |
| Night Elf | Jartsam and Lelanai, Darnassus (sabers) |
| Orc | Kildar and Ogunaro Wolfrunner, Orgrimmar (wolves) |
| Troll | Xar'Ti and Zjolnir, Durotar (raptors) |
| Tauren | Kar Stormsinger and Harb Clawhoof, Mulgore (kodos) |
| Undead | Velma Warnam and Zachariah Post, Tirisfal Glades (skeletal horses) |
| Skyborne, both factions | Genn Fairweather, Zephras Isle (galestriders) |
Paladins, Warlocks and other mounts
Paladins and Warlocks. Method reports class quests at level 40 that give the mount free, with difficult epic questlines at 60, and says the Horde Paladin quest could not be tested in the beta. See Paladin.
Store mounts. Blizzard's upgrades include the Cerulean Prideclaw; see Upgrades and Editions. Whether it can be ridden at level 40 is not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
Legacy mount. The Reins of the Spectral Bear is a Legacy reward, shown locked at 55 points in Blizzard's Progress Track image. Under Hardcore, mounts earned elsewhere do not carry in.
Getting around without flying
"You won't find flying mounts" in Forever, Blizzard said, nor level scaling. Forever also has no summoning at meeting stones; see Guilds and Grouping. The Tauren's Plainsrunning does not help on a mount: the Oct 26, 2026 notes removed its mounted speed bonus. Frequent Flier, a Legacy perk, makes flight paths cheaper and faster.
What is not known yet
As of Oct 31, 2026: Blizzard's own riding prices, and whether the first mount comes with the training. Launch day will settle both.
