Upgrades and Editions

World of Warcraft: Forever's optional upgrades: the Skyborne Heroic Pack ($29.99), Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99), Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99) and a physical Collector's Edition, what each adds, and what comes with a plain subscription or Game Time. Prices as read on the Battle.net Shop on Oct 31, 2026.

World of Warcraft: Forever's optional upgrades cost $29.99 (Skyborne Heroic Pack), $59.99 (Skyborne Epic Pack) and $79.99 (Warcraft Forever Collection) in the US, or €29.99, €59.99 and €79.99 in Europe, on the Battle.net Shop as read on Oct 31, 2026 (Battle.net Shop), and none is needed to play: Blizzard includes access with a World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time (Price and Subscription). Optional upgrades sell extras on top, and the new Skyborne race with its Zephras Isle starting experience comes with them rather than with the base game. Blizzard offers three upgrades for pre-purchase, the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack and the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection, and a physical Collector's Edition through the Blizzard Gear Store. GameSpot, reporting from BlizzCon, pointed out the trade-off: a new expansion would normally bring a new race, but because Forever comes with the subscription, Blizzard is "charging for the Skyborne and the new starting zone", which it called "something they've never done before in WoW".

On a parchment background split into angled panels sit the bundle rewards: a man and an elf woman in matching gray and blue outfits with four small pets under the Forever logo; an armored brown bear mount, a blue feathered mount with a rider, a dwarf in green and bronze armor, two elves in white and gold armor, a figure seen from behind with a backpack, a glowing stone well and a 30-day Game Time token under the World of Warcraft and Forever logos; blue and white housing decor and two figurines under the Midnight logo; and the Warcraft III Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom logos beside a hulking brute and an armored warrior.

Access

One World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time already covers modern World of Warcraft and the WoW Classic versions, and Blizzard's announcement says access to Forever "will be included" in the same way. No upgrade is needed to play Forever's new zones, dungeons, quests and systems. Friends invited with an Invite-A-Friend code can play launch week without either (see below).

Skyborne Heroic Pack

The Heroic Pack is the upgrade that unlocks the Skyborne. Blizzard's pre-purchase page lists access to the Skyborne race and their Zephras Isle starting experience, early name reservation, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount (usable in both modern WoW and Forever; players still have to buy the riding skill in game to use it), the Shen'dorei Skyseer's Garb, the Veteran Adventurer's Rucksack, the Shen'dorei Windwell toy, Skyborne housing decor items for modern World of Warcraft, and one Invite-A-Friend launch code. MadSeasonShow, going through the packs in his summary video, calls the Skyborne "quite controversial" and notes that early name reservation was also offered for WoW Classic in 2019, "although it wasn't paywalled if I remember correctly".

Skyborne Epic Pack

The Epic Pack contains everything in the Heroic Pack, plus 30 days of World of Warcraft Game Time added to the account from Nov 4, 2026, a matching bear mount and transmog set inspired by the Veteran Adventurer set, tabards, a family of pets for the player's Forever collection, and two more Invite-A-Friend launch codes, three in all. It also came with the Forever beta, which closed on Oct 23, 2026, so that part is over and the shop's description of the pack no longer lists it. MadSeasonShow summed it up, before the beta opened, as the way to have "guaranteed access to the beta if you don't want to chance it". After the 30 days, the shop says, play "requires a Subscription or additional Game Time (sold separately)".

Warcraft Forever Collection

The Warcraft Forever Collection adds Warcraft III: Reforged, the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, and Forsaken and Human figurine decor for housing in modern World of Warcraft to everything in the Epic Pack. It is a limited-time offer, "available through January 11, 2027". Forsaken Kingdom, which went live at BlizzCon, is also sold on its own in the Battle.net Shop. Its project lead, Brad Chan, described it on stage as a prologue campaign, The Last Days of Lordaeron, followed by the main Forsaken Kingdom campaign, set in the four years between Warcraft III and World of Warcraft.

Collector's Edition

Blizzard also sells a physical Collector's Edition through the Blizzard Gear Store. Closing the What's Next panel, Associate Production Director Clay Stone told anyone who picks it up that the team hopes they love the logo on the box, and the "very own dwarf and bear statue" inside, which "signifies where this all began": with Hardcore, and with the original game in November 2004.

Two pieces of packaging on a gray backdrop. On the left, a cube-shaped box has one side printed like an old parchment map with runes and the World of Warcraft Forever logo, and a dark, tooled-leather-look side with a round window showing a bronze statue of a roaring bear and a bearded dwarf with a gun on a rocky base. On the right, a dark embossed slipcase with a round cut-out frames a blue map and the Forever logo, beside a book-like spine with a small logo medallion.

Blizzard's article of Sep 24, 2026 lists the contents: a Warcraft Forever Collection digital code, so everything in the Skyborne Epic Pack plus Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign; a 13-inch Dwarf and Bear statue; a Zephras Isle mousepad; art prints; collectible pins; and a companion journal. The same article put more English-language copies on sale that day in North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand (in Australia and New Zealand through retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and EB Games). Orders from this restock "are expected to be shipped and delivered February 2027", after launch, and the Blizzard Gear Store limits them to one per household. Buyers who want the digital items sooner can buy the Collection or another Forever upgrade on the Battle.net Shop; some of those purchases qualify for Battle.net Balance credit equal to the price paid when the Collector's Edition code is redeemed by Dec 31, 2027, though not every product or upgrade path does.

On a parchment map background: the dark box with a round Forever logo window, the bronze dwarf and bear statue, a dark blue journal with a gold W emblem, a gold compass pin and a blue cloud pin, a long blue mousepad drawn with a ruined city among pines, and two framed prints, a red canyon landscape and a blue cavern with a huge skeleton. To the right are the digital rewards: a blue feathered mount with a rider, an armored brown bear mount, a 30-day Game Time token, characters in matching outfits and armor, pets, blue and white housing decor and the Warcraft III Reforged Forsaken Kingdom logo.

The upper one is a painted landscape of red earth and a cobbled path through a canyon with burnt tree trunks, a glowing orange rock and a tiered tower beneath tall blue peaks. The lower one shows a dim blue cavern of twisted roots, where the skull and spine of a huge horned creature lie before a stone gateway glowing purple, watched by carved animal heads.

Invite-A-Friend and name reservation

Every upgrade includes Invite-A-Friend launch codes: one with the Heroic Pack, three with the Epic Pack or the Collection. Codes have been delivered by email since Oct 20, 2026, PST, and give a friend access to Forever "without a subscription or game time" during launch week, Nov 4 to 11, 2026. Gift purchases are excluded, and Blizzard says other restrictions apply.

Early name reservation comes with any upgrade and runs from Oct 27 to Nov 3, 2026, PST, and the shop says it "only applies to the specific WoW account it was purchased for". It opened on Oct 27 at 1:00 p.m. PDT in North America and 18:00 CET in Europe, and on Oct 28 at 07:00 in Korea and Taiwan, after Forever is installed from the Game Version menu in the Battle.net app. Players can create and customize up to three characters in total across all rulesets, names are reserved first come, first served, and Blizzard notes that desired names cannot be guaranteed. The new Roleplay-PvP ruleset is open for reservation too. In Forever a full name has two parts, a first and a second name, and it must be unique within the region (see Rulesets). The dates sit alongside the launch timeline on Release and Roadmap.

Which upgrade to buy

The choice comes down to what each step adds, using Blizzard's lists and the shop's US prices above. After Nov 3 name reservation drops out of every pack's value, and the sums for the first month are on Price and Subscription:

  • No upgrade. Everything Forever adds, its zones, dungeons, quests and systems, with a subscription or Game Time, but without the Skyborne, early name reservation or the beta.
  • Heroic Pack, $29.99. The cheapest way to play a Skyborne and to reserve names from Oct 27.
  • Epic Pack, $59.99. 30 days of Game Time from Nov 4, more cosmetics and pets, and three Invite-A-Friend codes instead of one. Its beta access ended when the beta closed on Oct 23, 2026.
  • Warcraft Forever Collection, $79.99. The Epic Pack plus Warcraft III: Reforged and the Forsaken Kingdom campaign, on sale until Jan 11, 2027.

Housing decor is for modern WoW

Both the Heroic Pack and the Collection include housing decor, but Blizzard's shop says it "can only be used within Housing in Modern WoW", and that "Housing feature requires World of Warcraft: Midnight (sold separately)". Player housing belongs to modern WoW; Forever does not have it, and the decor is a bonus for players of the live game.

Reaction

Putting the Skyborne in a paid pack drew the most comment. WillE, summing up the first day of BlizzCon, said "we should have all known" there would be more than the subscription, and that the part players would not like was that the Skyborne and beta access are "behind a purchase price". He thought it could set "a precedent" for how Blizzard sells future races or classes in Forever, compared it with modern WoW, where new races and classes have come with paid expansions since The Burning Crusade, and expected players to receive it less well here.

GameSpot's advice was that the pack is optional: players who do not want a Skyborne character "don't have to buy it" and can still enjoy "all the new changes and the new zones and content".

MadSeasonShow noted that no other forms of monetization have been announced, but that Blizzard has not said there will not be any, calling it "an elephant in the room" given Blizzard's history. More reactions are on Reception.
