Best DPS
The best DPS in World of Warcraft: Forever, by Blizzard's own account: Rogues for single-target damage on a standstill boss, Warriors for sustained cleave, Mages for ranged area damage, hybrids about 5% behind the pure classes, plus NoobToBoss's beta list, as of Oct 31, 2026.
In World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard itself names the Rogue as the top single-target damage dealer: "rogues will be the highest single target damage dealers in the game", on a standstill boss, its designers said on Oct 1, 2026, and "if rogues don't do the most single target damage, why are there rogues". But that is one fight type. Blizzard also says Warriors are "the kings of cleave damage" and that Mages have stronger ranged area damage than any class, and its stated goal is that all 27 talent trees are worth bringing. No one has measured level 60 damage: NoobToBoss's beta list of Oct 19 ranks at a level 30 cap, and Icy Veins' list of Oct 26 leaves every damage spec "TBD".
Quick facts
| Single target, standstill | Rogue (Blizzard) |
| Cleave, several bosses or adds | Warrior (Blizzard) |
| Ranged area damage | Mage (Blizzard) |
| Longest range | Hunter (Blizzard) |
| Pure damage classes | Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Warlock |
| Hybrids | About 5% less damage on their damage specs (Blizzard, Oct 1, 2026) |
| NoobToBoss, Oct 19, 2026, top tier | Marksmanship and Beast Mastery Hunter, Enhancement Shaman |
| Icy Veins, Oct 26, 2026 | All 20 damage specs "TBD" |
What Blizzard says
Warrior: "I want warriors to be the kings of cleave damage." Blizzard says no other class can sustain it across a whole fight, so "warrior will be the strongest" on fights with several bosses or lots of adds. See Warrior.
Mage: "masters of ranged area damage which is stronger and more varied than any other class" (deep dive, Oct 7). Tanks hold threat on only a few enemies, Blizzard warns. See Mage.
Warlock: "they now do damage to compete with any other spellcaster, with three completely different styles" (deep dive, Oct 7). See Warlock.
Rogue: the highest potential single-target melee damage, the deep dive repeats, and one reason Blizzard kept back energy regeneration. See Rogue.
Hunter: damage is its only role, with the longest range of any class and a dead zone within 8 yards. See Hunter.
Hybrids pay "around 5% less damage" on damage specs. That covers Retribution, Shadow Priests, Elemental and Enhancement, Balance and Feral, and Warrior too.
Holy Priests have a damage build too: a designer said one was out-damaging some damage specs with Judgment of the Crusader up, so Blizzard brought them down, since they should not be "quite as good" as specs meant for damage.
Numbers will move: every class has a target damage budget, so each buff must come out of something else.
What creators and guide sites say
NoobToBoss's list of Oct 19, 2026 places Marksmanship Hunter, Beast Mastery Hunter and Enhancement Shaman in S. In A it has Survival Hunter, Elemental Shaman, Assassination and Combat Rogue, Fury and Arms Warrior and Demonology Warlock. In B it has Retribution, Subtlety, Affliction, Destruction, all three Mage specs, Feral and Shadow Priest. Balance Druid is C, which it says reflects "missing abilities at level 30" (NoobToBoss). It calls this "a snapshot, not a final meta", and its order differs from Blizzard's stated plan for level 60. Icy Veins' list by Petko ranks none yet (Icy Veins), and its class guide advises against rolling a class on power alone, since "no class will be the top DPS for a long period of time" (Icy Veins).
Countdown, on Sep 13, named the Warlock the overall winner of the talent trees.
