Warlock
The Warlock in World of Warcraft: Forever: open to Trolls, Banes beside curses, pets that scale with you, Firestone and Spellstone as imbues, Wrack, Demonic Pact and Incinerate at 31 points, and the Fear range Blizzard called an oversight.
The Warlock in World of Warcraft: Forever is a pure spell damage class with a demon, playable by Orcs, Trolls (new in Forever) and Undead on the Horde and by Gnomes and Humans on the Alliance. Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom become Banes that sit beside a curse, pets scale from their summoner's stats, and each tree has a new 31-point talent: Wrack, Demonic Pact and Incinerate. On Oct 1, 2026, Blizzard's designers said they deliberately flipped Master Demonologist's bonuses so that Demonic Pact, by keeping a sacrifice while another demon is out, can double them up, "best of both worlds". Blizzard says Warlocks are still "physically weak themselves, depending on their demon pets for protection", but "now do damage to compete with any other spellcaster" (Blizzard). Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026.

Who can be a Warlock
Blizzard's table of Sep 22, 2026 lists Orc, Troll and Undead for the Horde and Gnome and Human for the Alliance. Troll Warlock is the new pairing.
Racials matter a little here. Blizzard's launch pass of Oct 26 and 27, 2026 gave Orcs Command again, 5% more Warlock and Hunter pet damage, restored Blood Fury to 2 minutes, lengthened the Troll's Berserking to 15 seconds and set the Undead's Touch of the Grave to a 15-second internal cooldown. Blizzard said "some races will naturally be slightly more effective than others at certain combat roles" (Blizzard). See Races and Racials and New Race and Class Combinations.
Changes for every Warlock
No baseline spell in Blizzard's deep dive has a new level, so this list is by effect.
- Banes: Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom are Banes. Only one Bane per Warlock can be on a target, and everything that interacted with Curses now also interacts with Banes, so a Warlock can run a Bane and a curse on the same target. Orcs' Shatter Curse dispels both (Oct 15).
- Curses: Curse of the Elements covers all magic damage, and Curse of Shadows is removed.
- Firestone and Spellstone are weapon imbues that stack with Wizard Oil. Firestone adds Fire damage and critical strike chance, Spellstone Shadow damage and spell haste.
- Life Tap scales with Spirit.
- Drain Soul has a progressive chance per tick of a Soul Shard, rising until it is guaranteed. It is interrupted when another cast begins (Oct 1).
- Pets scale from the summoner's stats, and Aggressive Mode returned on Oct 1. The current pet is stunned while a new one is summoned (Oct 8).
- Hellfire can critically strike (Oct 1). Shadow Bolt ranks were smoothed on Oct 8. Voidwalker Sacrifice scales with 10% of spell healing (Sep 24).
Affliction
Every talent, by date: Affliction Warlock.
Damage over time and drains, "now with full viability from dealing critical strikes" (Blizzard).
- 31 points, Wrack: a drain-style spell dealing Shadow damage every second and raising your other Shadow damage over time on the target by 10% for 6 seconds. Blizzard means it as the main spell between damage-over-time casts and Nightfall's instant Shadow Bolts.
- 16 points, Curse of Exhaustion: moved up to row 4, slowing by 30%.
- Pandemic: up to 100% more critical strike damage on Corruption, Bane of Agony, Bane of Doom, Drain Soul, Drain Life, Siphon Life and Wrack.
- Soul Siphon: up to 12% more drain damage per your other Affliction spell on the target, up to 36%.
- Malevolence: Shadow spell critical strike chance up to 5%. Improved Drains: up to 20%. Suppression: up to 5% hit and 20% less threat. Improved Corruption: also up to 10% damage.
- Grim Reach: replaced Malediction on Oct 15; 10 or 20% range on Affliction spells.
- Shadow Mastery: 2/4/6/8/10% Shadow damage since Oct 15. Soul Harvest: renamed on Oct 1, 50 or 100% more mana regeneration.
- Removed: Improved Curse of Weakness, Improved Drain Life, Improved Drain Mana, Improved Curse of Exhaustion, Dark Pact.
Fear's range was a live question. Sodapoppin pointed out on Oct 1 that the old talent extended all Affliction spells and the new wording covered damaging spells only, leaving Fear at 20 yards. A designer called it "an oversight", and wondered whether Fear should be baseline at 30 or Affliction should get it from a talent. Two weeks later Grim Reach extended "your Affliction spells" by up to 20%, and Destructive Reach became Destruction-only.
Demonology
Fights alongside its demon.
- 31 points, Demonic Pact: requires Soul Link. Your Demonic Sacrifice survives summoning a different pet; only resummoning the sacrificed one cancels it. Blizzard says it is the first time a Warlock can have Sacrifice and Master Demonologist together.
- 21 points, Soul Link: down from 31, moved up to row 5.
- 16 points, Fel Domination: needs Master Summoner.
- 11 points, Demonic Sacrifice: redesigned. Effects last 2 hours. Imp raises Shadow damage, Voidwalker restores mana, Succubus or Incubus raises Fire damage, and Felhunter restores health.
- Master Demonologist: reversed. Imp raises Fire damage, Voidwalker cuts Physical damage taken, Succubus or Incubus raises Shadow damage, Felhunter cuts Magic damage taken.
- Demonic Knowledge: spell damage for you and your pet, up to 33% of your level, while a demon is out.
- Decimation: up to 90% off Soul Fire's cooldown. Shadow Bolt or Searing Pain below 35% health shortens Soul Fire's cast and removes its Soul Shard cost for 10 seconds.
- Demonic Brand: Searing Pain gives your pet two Fire or Shadow attacks. Since Oct 8, only Shadow attacks get high threat, so a Voidwalker benefits and an Imp does not.
- Demonic Energies: heals your pet with up to 15% of your spell damage, and passes up to 100% of Life Tap's mana to it. Fel Vitality: up to 15% more pet health and mana and up to 15% more of your mana. Improved Felhunter: 2 seconds off Spell Lock, among others.
- Removed: Improved Healthstone, Fel Intellect, Fel Stamina, Improved Subjugate Demon, Improved Firestone, Improved Spellstone. Unholy Power moved to row 1 with less pet damage.
A speaker on the podcast passed on talk that the Imp felt like half a pet, weak on mana, and allowed it might be just scuttlebutt. A designer's answer was Demonic Energies: in testing, the Imp "never ran out", and at one point out-damaged his Demonology Warlock, so Blizzard nerfed it a bit.
Destruction
Fire and Shadow together, on purpose.
Blizzard said an all-Fire Destruction would be "a different flavor of fire mage and probably not as good", so mixing schools is the point, with Incinerate probably the core spell. A designer added that in China's Titan Reforge realms he made Fire and Shadow stack toward a meteor, and said Forever's push could get stronger.
- 31 points, Incinerate: a 2.5-second Fire cast at 30 yards, 25% stronger on a target with your Immolate. Requires Bane of Havoc.
- 21 points, Bane of Havoc: for 5 minutes, 15% of your damage to other targets also hits the cursed one. One target at a time.
- 16 points, Conflagrate: moved up from row 7.
- Shadow and Flame: Conflagrate raises Shadow damage for 20 seconds and Shadowburn raises Fire damage for 20 seconds. Conflagrate has up to 100% to keep Immolate, and Shadowburn up to 100% to refund a Soul Shard.
- Fire and Brimstone: more critical strike chance on Conflagrate. Aftermath: up to 50% more initial Immolate damage, and Conflagrate can Daze. Molten Skin: up to 10% less damage taken.
- Ruin: moved up to row 3, 5 points, in reach of Demonology hybrids. Agonizing Flames: 3 points, more damage on all Destruction spells. Improved Shadow Bolt: no longer has charges, and benefits only your own Shadow damage.
- Destructive Reach: 10 or 20% range on Destruction spells since Oct 15.
- Removed: Improved Firebolt, Improved Lash of Pain, Devastation, Improved Immolate, Emberstorm.
Group play and leveling
Warlock is one of the four classes Blizzard says escapes the roughly 5% hybrid cost, with Hunter, Mage and Rogue.
Banish is on Blizzard's short list of what keeps dungeons tactical.
For leveling, Blizzard's notes offer the pet changes and the Oct 1 fix of Soul Harvest, without ranking the class. NoobToBoss's list of Oct 19, 2026 places Warlock in its second tier, calling it the best solo sustain, on a level 30 cap with levels above that projected (NoobToBoss). See Best Leveling Class.
PvP
Sodapoppin asked about the half-and-half Soul Link and Siphon Life build, which he said has always been the dominant 1v1 build in tournaments. Blizzard's designers said a specialization split across two trees can be purely for PvP, and that they do not balance for 1v1s: "you should feel like you could take any Warlock build into a battleground".
Kargoz's guide of Oct 13, 2026 says exactly that build, a Demonology hybrid, is its pick: "Warlock is looking phenomenal", "a serious contender for the top of the PvP meta", with Soul Link moving 30% of incoming damage to the demon (Kargoz on Mobalytics). On the fifth podcast, Oct 22, a host congratulated the "Warlock guy" who won the beta's PvP tournament, without naming a build. Rankings are on Best PvP Class.
Sodapoppin, on Sep 24, said "Warlock's got a pretty big nerf in PvP" from the Fear reduction, before Grim Reach; he added that the real damage has yet to be seen.
What creators said
Countdown named the Warlock the overall winner of the talent trees on Sep 13, with Affliction and Demonology among its most valuable specializations.
Icy Veins calls Warlock "the darker and more durable alternative to Mage", and says Affliction "has received one of the largest upgrades" (Icy Veins, Oct 15, 2026). NoobToBoss's damage list of Oct 19 puts Demonology in its second tier and Affliction and Destruction in its third, on a level 30 cap. The community count that Massively Overpowered reported on Oct 15 had Warlock as the least created class in the beta, at 9.1% (see Best Class).
What is not known yet
- The 11 and 21-point talents in Affliction and the 11-point talent in Destruction: Blizzard's articles do not number them.
- Whether Fear will reach 30 yards by talent at launch. Grim Reach's wording says Affliction spells; Blizzard has not said if Fear counts as of Oct 31, 2026.
- The launch build's numbers: no launch patch notes as of Oct 31, 2026.
- Tier sets, which Blizzard said in October it would review.
Frequently asked questions
What races can be Warlock in WoW Forever? Orc, Troll and Undead for the Horde, Gnome and Human for the Alliance. Skyborne cannot.
What are Banes in WoW Forever? Curse of Agony and Curse of Doom, now a separate type: one Bane per Warlock on a target, and it no longer blocks your curse.
Are there Soul Shards in WoW Forever? Yes. Drain Soul's chance of one rises with each tick until it is guaranteed.
What is Demonic Pact? Demonology's 31-point talent. Your Demonic Sacrifice stays active when you summon a different pet, so you can have Sacrifice and Master Demonologist together.
Does Curse of Shadows exist in WoW Forever? No. Blizzard removed it, and Curse of the Elements now covers all magic damage.
Is Soul Link PvP still good in WoW Forever? Blizzard says it is fine with a two-tree build being purely for PvP. Kargoz picks it as the Warlock's best PvP build, as a prediction made before launch.
Do Warlock pets scale in WoW Forever? Yes, from their summoner's stats, per Blizzard's deep dive of Oct 7, 2026.
