Best Tank
The best tank in World of Warcraft: Forever is not settled: Warrior, Paladin and Druid are the only three tanks, Blizzard says all are competitive, Icy Veins has not ranked them, and NoobToBoss's beta list puts Protection Paladin first, all as of Oct 31, 2026.
World of Warcraft: Forever has three tanks, Protection Paladin, Protection Warrior and Feral Druid, and no one can yet name the best: as of Oct 31, 2026 nobody has tanked its raids, which open on Dec 9. The one published ranking we can attribute, NoobToBoss's beta list of Oct 19, 2026, puts Protection Paladin first, Protection Warrior "very close" and Feral Bear Druid third, and it says those are small differences on a level 30 cap. Icy Veins' tank list, updated Oct 26, leaves all three as "TBD". Riyani, surveying the tanks on Sep 14, also called it too early to say.

What Blizzard says about each tank
Every tank has the same ceiling. Blizzard said at BlizzCon that "our tanks can only do threat on three or four targets at once", and "you can't pull a whole dungeon all at once", so the old Paladin room-pull is gone by design.
Blizzard says everybody's "damage or healing or tanking is competitive", with hybrids missing some tools rather than falling behind.
- Paladin: Seal of Fury makes Judgment a taunt. Consecration is baseline at level 20 and heavy on the first four enemies. Swift Judgment resets a missed taunt, and Templar's Bulwark gives an absorb equal to full health. Improved Seal of Fury and Shield Specialization return mana, and since Oct 8 that mana no longer generates threat.
- Warrior: Blizzard's notes moved Focused Rage earlier for leveling and rebalanced Rage from taking damage on Oct 8. Blizzard also calls Warriors "the kings of cleave damage". The class has its own page, Warrior.
- Druid: Primal Bite, Lacerate from level 42 and Swipe on three targets. Frenzied Regeneration heals up to 100% of health, Thick Hide reads Defense on gear, Bear threat is 50% since Oct 8, and Berserk removes Primal Bite's cooldown.
One change helps every Rage tank. Power Word: Shield no longer stops Rage from damage, so a Discipline Priest can shield a Warrior without the old complaint, speakers on the podcast said on Oct 1, one recalling hating a shield as a main tank in 2019.
What creators and guide sites say
Riyani expects the Protection Paladin to stay the preferred tank for large pulls, though brought down from Burning Crusade, noting Paladins dealt three to four damage with Consecration beyond the first four enemies at level 38 on the show floor.
Riyani sees Warriors nudged toward a one-handed weapon and shield, with better Rage at low levels and Thunder Clap and Charge in Defensive Stance.
Riyani calls the Druid the simplest of the three in items, builds and play. Mangle has since become Primal Bite.
NoobToBoss, in its list of Oct 19, 2026, judges threat and taunt, defense, resource economy, pack control and the level 60 outlook, on dungeons only: Paladin for "a long-range taunt, strong pack threat and useful defensive tools", Warrior for "predictable boss tanking", Druid behind because Dire Bear Form, Lacerate and Berserk arrive after level 30. It admits "sources disagree on the top spot", with some naming the Warrior first (NoobToBoss). Icy Veins publishes a tank list by Petko but ranks nothing yet (Icy Veins).
