Warrior
The Warrior in World of Warcraft: Forever: every race can play one, Rage rebuilt and bug-fixed in the beta, Victory Rush at level 20, Tactical Mastery at 14, raid-wide Battle Shout, Arms, Fury and Protection with their 16-point talents Spearing Strike, Raging Blows and Vanguard, and what Blizzard's designers say a Warrior is for.
In World of Warcraft: Forever the Warrior is the melee class of Arms, Fury and Protection, playable by every race, and Blizzard's designers say what it is for in one line: "I want warriors to be the kings of cleave damage", the only class able to sustain damage on several targets through a whole fight. Forever rebuilds Rage so that armor and absorb shields no longer reduce what a Warrior gains from being hit, gives every Warrior Tactical Mastery at level 14 and Victory Rush at level 20, makes Thunder Clap usable in Defensive Stance, and moves the old weapon talents into one, Weaponmaster. Fury was reworked again the day after Blizzard's class article of Sep 30, 2026. Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026; the shared talent rules are on Classes and Talents.

What Blizzard says a Warrior is
Blizzard's Priest and Warrior deep dive calls Warriors "the masters of melee combat", able both to deal melee damage and to reduce damage done to them, with "a unique strength in dealing sustained damage to multiple melee targets, found on no other melee class". The limit it sets is recovery: they "lack the tools to easily recover from taking too much damage". They also have buffs and debuffs only Warriors supply, and "any party or raid is happy to add a Warrior as either a tank or damage dealer" (Blizzard).
That flexibility has a price. On the second WoW: Forever Podcast, Blizzard's designers put the damage cost of being able to fill more than one role at around 5%, and counted the Warrior as such a class: "you can strap on a shield, go defensive stance, and save the day".
Recklessness stays on a 30-minute cooldown. Asked about it on the podcast, the designers said they first gave it a short cooldown along with Shield Wall and Retaliation, then found Warrior damage far too high, because Recklessness is probably the strongest personal cooldown in the game, so a longer cooldown was an easy call. Later in the same episode they said it is meant to be a high moment rather than something a Warrior gets too used to. Blizzard's article confirms that the three no longer share a cooldown.
Rage in Forever
Rage was the class's largest change and the beta's largest complaint. Blizzard's article sets out the design (Blizzard):
- From taking damage: the original formula, except that armor is ignored, so wearing armor no longer lowers the Rage gained. Absorb effects are ignored too, so Power Word: Shield no longer costs a Warrior Rage.
- From dealing damage: fully normalized, based on the speed of the weapon that dealt it.
- From critical strikes: extra Rage is back. The article said 75%; the build of Oct 1 raised it to 100% (Blizzard).
On the podcast of Oct 1, as Warrior players were protesting, Principal Game Designer Kris Zierhut confirmed a bug: "warriors are not getting as much rage from taking damage as we intended", and an engineer had it next. He had felt it himself tanking dungeons as a bear.
The fix arrived on Oct 8. Blizzard corrected three bugs: Rage used the player's own health rather than an expected creature's, so Stamina gear lowered it; critical strikes and crushing blows taken were mishandled; and absorbs were not ignored properly. Blizzard also stopped balancing every Warrior around tank armor: Rage gains now assume armor of 20% to 40% depending on level, since the old 50% figure "was not appropriate for questing Warriors" (Blizzard). On Oct 1, Rend and Sunder Armor were also made to tap enemies to the Warrior at once (Blizzard).
The podcast also sees an indirect gain for Warrior tanks. Since Power Word: Shield no longer prevents Rage, one speaker, a main tank in his guild in 2019, recalls hating being shielded and calls the change "a huge plus up" for Discipline Priests.
Every Warrior's baseline changes
| Tactical Mastery | Level 14. Keep 10 Rage when changing Stances; Arms can raise it |
| Victory Rush | Level 20. Instant attack on a 30-second cooldown, scaling with Attack Power, healing 10% of maximum health; active for 20 seconds after killing a non-trivial enemy |
| Berserker Rage | Level 30, was 32 (Blizzard) |
| Recklessness | No longer shares a cooldown with Shield Wall or Retaliation |
| Retaliation, Shield Wall | 15-minute cooldowns, not shared |
| Rend | Significant damage scaling from Attack Power |
| Thunder Clap | Usable in Defensive Stance, scales with Attack Power, 6-second cooldown, threat reduced to match |
| Battle Shout | Lower Attack Power, because both factions now have Shamans and Paladins, with Improved Battle Shout built in; raid wide since the build of Oct 15 |
| Sunder Armor | Usable even if a stronger Expose Armor is on the target; threat scales with Attack Power |
| Slam | 18-second cooldown (was 15), and no longer subject to spell pushback since Oct 15 |
| Demoralizing Shout | Fixed on Oct 8: it now puts some threat on every affected target |
| Baseline from old talents | Improved Battle Shout, Improved Demoralizing Shout, Improved Shield Block, Improved Taunt, and the longer Shout durations from Booming Voice |
The table's figures are from Blizzard's deep dive and the development notes of Sep 24 to Oct 15, 2026. Talents start at level 10, and Dual Specialization is available from level 40.
One stat change helps Warriors in particular. Hit chance used to be separate for melee, ranged and spells, which Blizzard's Deep Dive presenter called awkward, including for a Warrior who wants taunts to land. It is now one chance for all attacks; see Items and Stats.
Arms
Arms is a damage specialization built around weapon choice, Rend and Slam; Arms Warrior has every talent. Blizzard's changes (deep dive):
- Spearing Strike, the new 16-point talent: an instant attack for 15 Rage on a 20-second cooldown. It deals a percentage of weapon damage and dismounts the target, and damage is doubled if the target was mounted, a Dragon or a Giant. Since Oct 1 it needs Battle Stance and no longer needs a two-handed weapon.
- Weaponmaster, new in row 5, replaces Axe, Mace, Sword and Polearm Specialization: Axes and Polearms give critical strike chance, Maces and Staves ignore some armor, and Swords have a chance of an extra melee attack.
- Bloodthrill, new in row 5: main-hand attacks on a target with Rend have a chance to activate Overpower for 6 seconds, raised on Sep 24 to 4/8/12/16/20%. It includes Cleave and Heroic Strike.
- Improved Slam moves from Fury to row 6 of Arms and takes only 2 points. It cuts Slam's cooldown, global cooldown and cast time, and Slam no longer delays the melee swing. Since Sep 24 it takes 1.5 or 3 seconds off the cooldown.
- Improved Tactical Mastery adds 3 Rage retained per point, up to 25. Improved Overpower moves up to row 2. Deep Wounds is a required talent for Impale again, and is a rolling effect that does not scale with Attack Power (Oct 8).
A designer explained Bloodthrill on the podcast: a faster weapon procs it more often for less, a slower one less often for more, and it is meant to be a little random, with no rotational button every 6 seconds. "Yes, you will have those valleys", the designer said.
The same segment says why Slam is a cooldown. Keeping a swing timer was too much to demand for approachability, so Slam became a timed button; the designer added "I'm not entirely happy with where it's landing", and would like a low-damage Slam pressed all the time if the Rage economy allows.
Blizzard's article does not name the Arms 31-point talent; see What is not known yet.
Fury
Fury is the dual-wielding damage specialization, and the one Blizzard changed most after publishing its article; Fury Warrior has every talent. "Our goal here is to give Fury more access to utility and meaningful choices early in the tree for leveling," the build notes of Oct 1 say, "and free up points later for more choices instead of being stuck placing points into Enrage to get Flurry" (Blizzard). As of the last notes:
- Raging Blows, the 16-point talent: lowers the Rage cost of Cleave and Whirlwind by 3. Whirlwind now always strikes with both weapons without any talent.
- Lingering Rage, new in row 2: 2 to 10 seconds more before Rage decays after combat.
- Furious Precision, new in row 3: 4/7/10% off-hand hit chance. Dual Wield Specialization no longer gives hit or off-hand Rage.
- Gore Drinker, new in row 6, needs Enrage: Enrage, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Death Wish and Bloodthirst make the next 3 melee attacks restore 0.5 or 1% of maximum health.
- Flurry now needs Death Wish rather than Enrage, and gives 5% less attack speed in total. Death Wish raises all damage taken instead of lowering armor and resistances.
- Enrage can trigger from any damage taken. Booming Voice gives 10 to 50% more Shout area and 5 to 25% lower Shout Rage cost.
- Bloodthirst no longer heals. It gives 10% movement speed for 10 seconds, and its Attack Power ratio is 45% (was 35%). It no longer triggers Blood Craze.
- Removed: Improved Cleave, Boundless Rage. Unbridled Wrath no longer doubles Rage for two-handed weapons. Iron Will moved out of Fury to Protection.
Countdown's host, reviewing every tree within a day of the reveal, was most taken with Fury's Dual Wield Specialization, calling Fury a winner. The off-hand Rage and hit that excited him were removed on Oct 1, so that verdict predates the rework.
Protection
Protection is the Warrior's tank specialization, and a possible PvP secondary; Protection Warrior has every talent. Blizzard's aim on Oct 1 was "to give non-shield users a clear path to the middle of the tree", with more access to Improved Bloodrage, Iron Will, Improved Disarm, Last Stand and Improved Shield Bash (Blizzard).
- Vanguard, the new 16-point talent: Charge can be used in Defensive Stance.
- Shield Specialization generates 5 Rage on Block instead of 1. Master of Defense, new in row 3, gives a chance of 5 Rage on Dodge or Parry with a shield.
- Focused Rage lowers the Rage cost of all offensive abilities. It swapped places with Bastion on Sep 24, to row 5, "to smooth out some of the feeling while leveling as Protection before obtaining Shield Slam". Bastion raises all damage done with a shield equipped.
- Defiance now needs a shield for its threat in Defensive Stance. Improved Shield Wall cuts its cooldown by a large amount. Improved Revenge raises damage instead of stunning. Improved Disarm shortens the cooldown.
- Shield Slam gains more from Block Value. Anticipation gives twice the Defense per point. Toughness and One-Handed Weapon Specialization are gone.
- Row moves on Oct 1: Iron Will and Improved Bloodrage to row 1, Anticipation and Improved Revenge to row 2, Improved Disarm to row 3, Improved Shield Bash to row 4.
For tanks, Riyani saw the BlizzCon demo nudging Warriors towards a one-handed weapon and a shield, with much better Rage at low levels, Thunder Clap in Defensive Stance with a 20% attack speed slow, and Charge in Defensive Stance. Which tank comes out on top is on Best Tank.
What creators think
Sodapoppin, playing the beta in September, thought the Rage calculation was wrong and said Warriors should be monsters very vulnerable to crowd control: once one reaches you, you should be dying harder than to any other class. Rage was fixed on Oct 8. Published class rankings are on Best Class.
What is not known yet
- Launch numbers for every talent. Blizzard warned that abilities and talents "may continue to evolve" in the beta, and its notes end with the build of Oct 16, 2026. Not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
- The Arms 31-point talent and the labels on Fury's and Protection's. Blizzard's article calls Spearing Strike, Raging Blows and Vanguard gold medal talents but does not name these three. Mortal Strike, Bloodthirst and Shield Slam held those places in 2019 Classic, and the article lists changes to the last two; the placement in Forever is unconfirmed here.
- Whether Slam stays a cooldown. A designer was openly unhappy with it on Oct 1, and no later note changes the design.
- Warrior tier set bonuses. Blizzard said on the podcast it would review the tier sets as the beta ended.
- Any class change after Oct 16. Blizzard's racial pass of Oct 26 and 27, 2026 lists no Warrior changes, and no class notes have followed as of Oct 31, 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Which races can be Warriors in WoW Forever? All of them. Human, Dwarf, Night Elf, Gnome, Orc, Undead, Tauren, Troll and Skyborne on either faction, according to Blizzard's table. The Skyborne need the Heroic Pack or higher; see Skyborne.
Does armor reduce Rage in WoW Forever? No. Rage from taking damage ignores armor and absorb shields, per Blizzard's deep dive.
What is Victory Rush in WoW Forever? A level 20 baseline attack on a 30-second cooldown that heals 10% of maximum health, active for 20 seconds after killing a non-trivial enemy.
Is Slam on a cooldown in WoW Forever? Yes, 18 seconds in Blizzard's notes of Sep 24, 2026, and Improved Slam takes up to 3 seconds off it.
Does Whirlwind hit with both weapons? Yes, since the beta build of Oct 1, 2026, without a talent.
Can Warriors Charge in Defensive Stance? With Protection's 16-point talent Vanguard, yes.
How much Rage do critical strikes give? 100% more than a non-critical hit, since Oct 1, 2026 (Blizzard).
Is Recklessness still 30 minutes? Yes, said the designers on Oct 1, 2026, because a shorter cooldown made Warrior damage too high.
