Best Professions
The best professions in World of Warcraft: Forever as of Oct 31, 2026: no ranking from live play exists, so this page gives the pairings Warcraft Tavern recommends by goal, each profession's first camp feature, what counts for Legacy, and what the beta changed.
No profession has been shown to be the best in World of Warcraft: Forever as of Oct 31, 2026: Blizzard ranks none, the beta stopped at level 30, and the market only opens on Nov 4, so the sound choice is to pair a craft with the gathering skill that feeds it. Warcraft Tavern's guide suggests Alchemy with Herbalism for gold and self-sufficiency, and Blizzard's aim, a senior designer said at BlizzCon 2026, is that even at low levels your choice is felt and you want to keep leveling it. Each character takes two primary professions and all three secondary ones, Cooking, First Aid and Fishing (Blizzard). Every detail of the system is on Professions.
Quick facts
| Primary professions | Two per character (Blizzard) |
| Secondary professions | All three: Cooking, First Aid, Fishing |
| Passive bonuses | None, unlike later expansions (Warcraft Tavern) |
| Counted for Legacy | Crafting only: skill 150, 225 and 300, one point each (Blizzard) |
| Changing your mind | You can unlearn a primary, and lose its progress (Warcraft Tavern) |
| Measured best for gold | Not known as of Oct 31, 2026 |
Pairings by goal
These are Warcraft Tavern's recommendations, written from the beta. They are opinion, not Blizzard's advice.
| Gold and self-sufficiency | Alchemy and Herbalism |
| Plate wearers and melee | Blacksmithing and Mining |
| PvP, utility and fun | Engineering and Mining |
| Cloth wearers and casters | Enchanting and Tailoring |
| Leather and mail wearers | Leatherworking and Skinning |
| Everyone | Cooking and Fishing |
Guide sites disagree beyond this, and several that rank professions also sell gold or boosting, so their lists are left out.
What each choice brings to camp
A profession's real difference may be at the campfire, where each one places objects with a buff or a use of its own. Blizzard's Oct 21, 2026 article names the first feature of each, learned at skill 20, and most copy a class buff without stacking with it, so a group short of a class can fill the gap. Warcraft Tavern adds that the camp version is slightly weaker: 8% stats against the 10% of Blessing of Kings.
| Alchemy | Mana Well: Mana every 5 seconds |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel: Strength |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute: Armor, stats and resistances |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot: sells reagents to nearby players |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle: Intellect |
| Mining | Lodestone, like Blessing of Might (Warcraft Tavern) |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent: Rested experience |
| Skinning | Camp Chair: 2% critical strike |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner: Spirit |
A Leatherworker's Camp Tent is the one that speeds leveling directly; see Camping for values and the later tiers.
What else should sway you
- Legacy pays for crafting, not gathering. Skill 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession are 18 of the 65 Legacy Challenges. Gathering earns none, though Bountiful Harvest gives gatherers extra scarce materials.
- Vendors will not pay for your crafts. The beta cut the vendor price of many crafted items, so a craft earns gold only if another player wants it. See Gold Guide.
- Tauren and Gnomes get a profession racial. A Tauren's Cultivation picks herbs by player level (the herb's skill requirement divided by 5, in the Oct 15, 2026 notes), and Warcraft Tavern says a Gnome's Engineering Specialization makes gadgets backfire less. See Races and Racials.
- The starting-zone quest is free. Warcraft Tavern reports that a quest in each starting zone teaches Mining, Skinning or Herbalism with 2 skill points.
What is not known yet
As of Oct 31, 2026: which profession earns the most at level 60, which crafted items matter most for raids on Dec 9, and how much each costs to level. See Release and Roadmap. Blizzard says it will keep adding recipes, so any ranking may move.
