Battlegrounds
World of Warcraft: Forever battlegrounds: the new Darkspear Islands (15 versus 15, levels 30 to 60, first to 2,000 points) beside Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley, with more Honor in holiday weeks and evened-out Honor gains across all four.
World of Warcraft: Forever has the classic battlegrounds plus one new one, Darkspear Islands, a 15 versus 15 battleground off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh for levels 30 to 60 where the first team to 2,000 points wins. Blizzard promised at BlizzCon 2026 that players still fight in the classic battlegrounds they know, and its developers name them as Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley. Every one pays into the PvP Progression system of Honor and Rank Points, with extra of both in the battleground highlighted during its holiday week (Blizzard). Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026.

The four battlegrounds
Only Darkspear Islands has a size and level range from Blizzard's articles. The rest of this table is Icy Veins' list of Sep 19, 2026, not a Blizzard statement (Icy Veins).
| Battleground | Team size | Levels | Brackets, per Icy Veins |
|---|---|---|---|
| Darkspear Islands | 15 versus 15 (Blizzard) | 30 to 60 (Blizzard) | 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 |
| Warsong Gulch | 10 versus 10 | 10 to 60 | 10 to 19 and so on by tens, then 60 |
| Arathi Basin | 15 versus 15 | 20 to 60 | 20 to 29 and so on by tens, then 60 |
| Alterac Valley | 40 versus 40 | 51 to 60 | One bracket |
Darkspear Islands
The Darkspear Raiders (Horde) and the Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance) fight for four capture points and a flag in the middle of the map. "The more capture points your team controls, the quicker your team accrues points," Blizzard says, and carrying the flag to a captured base earns more. Each side has a base in the Barrens with a portal into the battle, quests and vendors: the Merchant Coast for the Horde, Northwatch for the Alliance (Blizzard). Marks of Honor turned in by quest build reputation, and Exalted unlocks a short questline for the faction's tabard. The map and rewards are on Darkspear Islands; the factions are on Reputation.
Honor, ranks and holiday weeks
Blizzard wants no one stuck in one map. "We have gone to great lengths to make sure that AV is probably a little less lucrative when it comes to honor gains," the developers told the PvP podcast of Oct 15, 2026, "but we have greatly increased how lucrative all of our other battlegrounds are", naming Warsong, Arathi Basin and the islands. Blizzard's article says the same: players should not feel "compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency".
Honor and Rank Points are balanced apart, so the best map for spending may not be the best for climbing. Holiday weeks tip the choice: "There should never be a situation where it's a holiday weekend for a battleground that isn't AV and you're like, should I still be running Alterac Valley?" one speaker said, and another answered "correct".
In the beta build of Oct 1, 2026 Blizzard raised most Honor prices on PvP gear by about 50% and the Honor cap from 15,000 to 25,000 (Blizzard). Rank rewards are on PvP Progression. Icy Veins reports three Marks for a win and one for a loss.
Who you fight with
Battlegrounds are the one place rulesets meet: they may include players from other rulesets, except Hardcore. Icy Veins adds that you meet those players by chance and cannot group across rulesets to queue.
PvE and PvP are meant to overlap. "You definitely wanted to grind your reputations in battlegrounds to get items that were worthwhile using in PvE content," the developers said of the original game, and they want that "organic overlap" to survive. Reaching Exalted with each battleground reputation is also a Legacy challenge.
Rated play is not the plan. The developers would be "very very very leery" of arenas or rated battlegrounds in Forever and want to stay with large battles of 10 or 15 a side, making new battlegrounds instead, though without ruling out a competitive mode one day.
Long games may not last. Asked about week-long Alterac Valleys and day-long Warsong Gulches, a developer said he believed Alterac Valley will still have forces and depletion, and could not say whether Warsong Gulch or Arathi Basin have a hard timer: "It's one of those things we'll look at."
What is not known yet
Not known as of Oct 31, 2026:

- Original battlegrounds' final numbers. Blizzard's articles give no team size or level for them, and the public beta stopped at level 30.
- Timers in Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin.
- Season dates. "PvP updates" are on the roadmap after Dec 9, with no date; see Release and Roadmap.
