Asmongold's Olympus guilds

Olympus, the chain of guilds the streamer Asmongold built in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta with the stated goal of getting the majority of players into one of them: the highlights, how it grew from one guild to more than 70,000 members by his count, the march to Mount Hyjal, and the criticism from players, streamers and the press.

Olympus is the Alliance guild the streamer Zack "Asmongold" started in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta and kept copying, Olympus 2, Olympus 3 and onward, because one guild cannot hold everyone he invites, and its declared aim is the majority of the game's players. "Our goal, as I said before, is to have the majority of the players be in our guild," he told his stream in a video posted on Oct 12, 2026, as he watched a fan-run census and found the population had grown so fast after a Blizzard invite wave that Olympus was now "a lot lower than 50%". His answer was more invites: recruiters at every level 1 area, "inviting everybody as soon as they start the game". By his count Olympus passed 70,000 members across hundreds of guilds before the beta's last week, in a game that has not been released; World of Warcraft: Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026.

Highlights

"The largest guild organization of all time." At the top of Mount Hyjal, with the crowd that had marched there around him, Asmongold gave the speech his members had been promised. Olympus had "exceeded our expectations", he said: "over 70,000 members, tens of thousands of downloads of the add-on, hundreds of guilds, drama later on, and it is only the beta." He went on: "we may have created the largest guild organization of all time in any MMO", and on Nov 4 "we are going to try to make the biggest guild that any MMO has ever seen." Nobody has verified the count, and Olympus is many guilds rather than one.

"They're true." Reading a post on the WoW forums that accused him of encouraging his followers "to pressure players outside his guild to leave and join his organization", and asked Blizzard to investigate, Asmongold answered on stream: "I would like to address the allegations that I think that everybody else should quit their guild and join Olympus. They're true. There are two groups of people in WoW Forever. There are the people who are in Olympus and the people who aren't in Olympus yet." Dexerto reported the exchange on Sep 22, 2026, as players called for him to be banned.

"Every single person should be in an Olympus guild." The plan was there from the first day of the beta. With the first Olympus nearly full and a crowd in Olympus tabards filling Stormwind's streets, Asmongold asked for "prophets, bishops, clerics, missionaries" to go "to the starting zones of each area and inviting every single player into an Olympus guild", adding: "Like a virus. A virus is a really great example of what we're doing."

The march to Mount Hyjal. On the second day of the same stream, a raid of Olympus members fought its way into Mount Hyjal, the new level 60 zone around the World Tree. "This is the promised land, gentlemen," Asmongold said on arriving. "I said that Olympus would make it to Hyjal. And here we are." The stream's chapter title calls it "600 Players to Mount Hyjal", and he added that a second layer full of members was following.

Olympus before Forever

Olympus is not new. In WoW Classic in 2019, Asmongold's guild of the same name on the Alliance side of Faerlina, then the busiest "streamer" realm in the US, grew so big that Olympus II, III and IV were founded beside it, Inven Global reported that September. In the Hyjal speech he put that guild at "between probably 10,000 and 20,000 people", then "probably between 10 and 15,000", and said the Forever Olympus had more than that on its first day.

Forever changes the arithmetic. It has no realm list: players choose a ruleset, and each ruleset works like one very large realm, so a crowd that size shares the world with everyone else on it, and players who want to avoid it cannot simply pick another realm, as Dexerto noted on Sep 24.

The first guild and the roll call

The beta opened on Sep 17, 2026. In the stream posted the next day Asmongold invited players one at a time to fill the first Olympus and said that once it was full, someone would be anointed to make Olympus 2; a member founded it later in the same stream, and further numbers followed.

By the stream posted on Sep 22, he was taking a roll call in a hall packed with members, guild by guild, as members called out about 1,000 for nearly every Olympus up to Olympus 11. "Are we 10,000 Olympians strong?" he asked, then named the problem: "we are being constrained by the guild size." He told everyone to join the Discord, calling the beta "a rehearsal for the true release".

Thirty thousand and counting

On Sep 23, answering calls for him to be banned, Asmongold posted that "Olympus now has 30+ full guilds with over 30,000 members", and announced themed branches with joke names, as Sportskeeda reported the next day. The same week a fan made the Olympus Guild add-on, which pools every Olympus roster into one census, shows where members are on the map and helps a new player find a guild with room. Asmongold relied on its numbers, while warning on stream that it "is not going to be accurate completely".

After a mass fight in the stream posted on Sep 27, 2026, he told the raid that "Olympus is growing as a guild" and "we have over 45,000 members in Olympus". Reading a post in the stream posted on Oct 4 that said 100,000 members was "looking more and more possible", he was more careful:

"I feel like 100k is unlikely, but I think that we could get up to 60, maybe even 70k," he said, before adding that "we'll hit 100k on launch if it's this size."

Recruiters and the 50% goal

By October the recruiting had a name: "apostles", members who invite new players. In the stream posted on Oct 12, Asmongold showed an add-on leaderboard of invites, in which John Gigachad, whom he called "our first apostle", had invited 621 players, and scolded members who had invited nobody.

The same stream is where he restated the goal that gives this page its subject. He opened a fan-run census site, ClassicPlus.io, to see "how close we are to 50% server population", and found the count far higher than the day before; he put it down to Blizzard letting many more players into the beta. The population had "gone up by over 70,000 people", he said, which put Olympus "a lot lower than 50%". Later that day, looking at the census again, he said Olympus held "over a third of the entire" server even after the invite wave, and celebrated 75,000 members on his add-on.

These are Asmongold's figures, from fan-made tools that count only what they can see. Blizzard publishes no population numbers for the beta, and the census sites disagree with one another.

Mount Hyjal

The next day Olympus set out for Mount Hyjal, one of Forever's three new zones and home of the Hyjal Summit raid. Asmongold called the column that cleared the way "the Olympus firing squad", told members not to resurrect strangers who might pull monsters onto the group, and reached the top with the crowd. There he read a sermon written, he said, by John, then gave the speech in the highlights above. He promised more such outings, the Dark Portal "in just a couple of days" among them, because "I want to do something that's a lot more accessible to everybody so we can have more people together."

Not every Olympus outing went smoothly. Layering, which splits a crowded zone into copies, kept members apart: Asmongold admitted "there's a whole other layer full of people" while the firing squad gathered, and the stream's lag left him wondering whether the Olympus add-on was to blame.

Criticism

The best-known criticism came from Sodapoppin, a co-owner of OTK. In a video posted on Sep 24, he explained why he was rerolling Horde: an Olympus player he grouped with was annoying, his world chat filled up, and friends sent him "screenshots of just annoying Olympus plague players, genuinely", though he also gave Horde racials and a dueling tournament as reasons. In a clip from his stream that Sportskeeda transcribed on Sep 24, he called the people who tend to be in Olympus brain-dead and "very obnoxious", partly because "Olympus just mass-invites people. As soon as you log in, you're going to get an invite to some Olympus guild instantly", adding that they were "very spammy" and "very fanatical", though "maybe it'll die down".

The reaction on social media was harsher. Delta's recap of the Hyjal march, posted on Oct 12, 2026, reads out posts on X such as one asking what is wrong with Asmongold lately, "like he's purposely going out of his way to be a toxic neck beard loser", and another saying "he will quit the game after 3 months anyway". The video sets them beside his fans' replies dismissing the critics.

Other criticism, as reported:

  • Lag and crowds. Dexerto, on Sep 22, quoted a Reddit user who logged off when Asmongold came online because "his flock turned SW into a 10fps fest", others who said his following would lead to "mass harassment", and one who suggested "just give them their own server and let us play in peace".
  • Spam and slurs. 404 Media's Matthew Gault wrote on Sep 24 that Asmongold's fans "filled the game's public spaces with spam and slurs", and Game Rant reported on Sep 25 that some members dodged chat filters with special characters, spammed trade and general chat and shared racist comments. Neither gave a count, and these are reports of what players saw.
  • OlympusMute. A player, Solastro, released OlympusMute on CurseForge on Sep 23: it hides chat, chat bubbles and invites from any guild named Olympus, only on the user's own screen. Solastro told 404 Media he had once been a big Asmongold fan. Asmongold answered on X with a joke: "This is either a hate crime or racism, I'm not sure which one yet." By Oct 15 OlympusMute had 67,365 downloads, fewer than the Olympus Guild add-on's 75,082.
  • Offensive names. Sportskeeda reported on Sep 28 that the guild master of Olympus 69 had been banned over an inappropriate character name, leaving the guild with a leader nobody could remove, and that Asmongold told its officer to file a ticket. Josh Strife Hayes, the YouTuber behind the "worst MMO" series, wrote during the beta's naming bans, as Hero Hei's video of Sep 28 reads out, that the drama "just shows how many obnoxious, attention-starved kids grew up into obnoxious, attention-starved adults", while agreeing that some bans were wrong.
  • Jokes about the opposition. Sportskeeda reported on Oct 2 that when chat raised the idea of Olympus being disbanded, Asmongold said his "master plan" was to make everybody say a racial slur, and that he called the guild's aim "to subjugate the Alliance" before turning on "the non-believers of Olympus".

Defenders and Asmongold's answer

Asmongold called critics "snowflakes" on the stream Dexerto reported, and said they were so annoying that "they actually have the WoW forums agreeing with me". He described Olympus as "the most inclusive community" in the game.

Some writers welcomed it. David V. Stewart, a novelist and musician who writes about games, argued on Sep 28 that Asmongold is "actually playing an MMO as a massively multiplayer game", and that "a huge megaguild disrupting that status quo, and existing in a game that allows that disruption, is healthy and good." Blizzard had not commented on Olympus or OlympusMute in any source found here.

What comes next

The beta closes on Oct 23, 2026 (extended from Oct 21), and Forever launches on Nov 4. Asmongold's stated plan is to start again at launch and make "the biggest guild that any MMO has ever seen", and asked in the stream posted on Sep 30 whether Olympus would play PvE at release, he said "probably": "that was always the plan", with PvP chosen for the beta for small world PvP events, though he had not decided.

Frequently asked questions

What is Olympus in WoW Forever? A chain of Alliance guilds started by the streamer Asmongold in the World of Warcraft: Forever beta. Each guild holds at most 1,000 members, so members found Olympus 2, Olympus 3 and so on, plus themed branches, and a fan add-on adds them up.

What is Asmongold's goal for Olympus? In his words: "to have the majority of the players be in our guild". In a stream posted on Oct 12, 2026, he said Olympus was "a lot lower than 50%" after Blizzard let many more players into the beta, and later that it held over a third of the server.

How many members does Olympus have? By Asmongold's count, over 70,000 by Oct 12, 2026, with his add-on showing 75,000; earlier he gave about 10,000 on Sep 22, over 30,000 on Sep 23 and over 45,000 on Sep 27. Blizzard has published no figure.

Is Olympus the biggest guild ever? Asmongold said it "may" be "the largest guild organization of all time in any MMO", and Delta's recap claimed it beats EVE Online's Goonswarm Federation. No one has verified either claim, and Olympus is many guilds under one name rather than one.

Why are people criticizing Olympus? Players and streamers have complained of mass invites and spam, crowds that lag cities, offensive names and chat from some members, and a streamer's audience dominating a world everyone shares; Sodapoppin called members "very spammy" and "very fanatical". Asmongold has said the allegations that he wants everyone in Olympus are "true".

How do I hide Olympus in WoW Forever? The OlympusMute add-on on CurseForge hides chat, chat bubbles and invites from guilds named Olympus, for the user alone.

Will Olympus carry over to launch? Asmongold plans to rebuild it when Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026, and said Olympus would "probably" play the Normal (PvE) ruleset then.
