Combat Rogue

Combat Rogue in World of Warcraft: Forever: Flawless Execution at 16 points, Hack and Slash in row 5, Weapon Expertise, Puncturing Wounds, Backstab support, one-handed axes, and what Blizzard has not named as of Oct 31, 2026.

Combat Rogue in World of Warcraft: Forever has Flawless Execution at 16 points, 10 Energy off Eviscerate, and Hack and Slash in row 5, one talent covering every weapon type. Countdown, on Sep 13, 2026, said Combat "didn't get many changes, but they got good, meaningful changes", and Blizzard's notes through Oct 15 did not alter the tree. This page lists each talent; the class is on Rogue.

How it plays

Blizzard wants two builds in one tree: "to support a Backstab-oriented build as well as a Sinister Strike-oriented build" (Blizzard). Puncturing Wounds and Aggression serve Backstab. Improved Eviscerate and Flawless Execution serve whichever builder feeds the finisher.

Hack and Slash removes the old weapon choice inside the tree. Axes share Swords' chance of an extra attack, and Maces now ignore some armor rather than stun (Blizzard).

Countdown also read Restless Blades on Sep 13: one point, damaging finishers taking two seconds per combo point off Adrenaline Rush, Blade Flurry, Evasion, Sprint and Vanish. "That's fantastic," he said. Blizzard's Combat list does not mention it, so whether it is still in the tree is unconfirmed.

His verdict on Hack and Slash was that the talents are "streamlined", and he said "I would absolutely play combat rogue".

Energy shaped the tree. A designer said an earlier version with energy talents forced him "to cut Sinister Strike to be like 12 damage at max rank", and leveling without those talents then did not work. Energy regeneration also scales fast with haste and critical strikes.

Changes in the beta, by date

Blizzard's notes hold no Combat talent changes through the build of Oct 15, 2026. Those that reach the tree are Rogue-wide:

  • Sep 24, 2026: Sap flags the Rogue for PvP on a flagged target (Blizzard).
  • Oct 1: a missed Expose Armor no longer costs every combo point (Blizzard).
  • Oct 15: Poisons stop activating against attackers, Sap no longer activates weapon procs, and swapping specializations no longer refills Energy (Blizzard).
  • Oct 26: weapon specialization racials stay removed, which Blizzard says keeps weapon types from being required (Blizzard).

Blizzard's role for it

Blizzard's promise covers the class: "rogues will be the highest single target damage dealers in the game", on a fight where the boss stands still. Its article describes Combat as hard direct damage with a little cleave from Blade Flurry. Blizzard has not said which Rogue tree leads. See Best DPS.

Thin creator views

Few and dated, with no consensus as of Oct 31, 2026.

  • NoobToBoss places Combat in its second damage tier, and lists Rogue in tier B for leveling as Assassination or Combat, Oct 19, at a level 30 cap (NoobToBoss).
  • RankedBoost grades it B for damage, graded Oct 3 (RankedBoost).
  • Kargoz ranks it last of the Rogue specs for PvP, Oct 13 (Kargoz on Mobalytics).

What is not known yet

  • Combat's 21 and 31-point talents: Blizzard's article does not name them.
  • Whether Restless Blades stays in the tree.
  • Which weapon type leads at level 60. No one has tested it, and Blizzard says Hack and Slash supports all.
  • Launch values: no launch patch notes as of Oct 31, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Can Combat Rogues use daggers in WoW Forever? Yes. Blizzard built Combat to support a Backstab build, and Hack and Slash includes daggers.

Do Rogues get axes? Yes, one-handed axes, which share Swords' extra attack chance under Hack and Slash.

Do maces stun in WoW Forever? Not from Hack and Slash, which makes them ignore some armor instead.

What is Flawless Execution? Combat's 16-point talent: Eviscerate costs 10 less Energy.
