Enhancement Shaman
Enhancement Shaman in World of Warcraft: Forever: Shamanistic Focus at 11 points, Stormstrike at 16, Spirit Weapons at 21, Rage of the Farseer at 31, why Maelstrom Weapon speeds only Lightning Bolt, why it wants spell power, and its temporary tanking.
Enhancement Shaman in World of Warcraft: Forever is a melee tree with Stormstrike at 16 points and Rage of the Farseer at 31, built to want spell power on its gear. A designer's answer on the podcast of Oct 1, 2026 was "we want enhancement shaman to care about spell power", as a deliberate reversal of Blizzard's old aim of making every stat equally useful to all classes. Totems and every Shaman's baseline are on Shaman. Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026.

Every talent Blizzard names
From Blizzard's deep dive of Oct 7, 2026 and the development notes.
| Where | Talent | As of the last notes |
|---|---|---|
| Row 1 | Earth's Grasp | Moved from Elemental |
| Row 1 | Thundering Strikes | Moved up; critical chance of all spells and attacks |
| Row not given | Ancestral Knowledge | Intellect, not maximum mana |
| Row 2 | Mental Dexterity | Attack Power from a percentage of Intellect |
| Row not given | Improved Ghost Wolf | Rank 1 works indoors, 1 second off the cast; rank 2 instant |
| Row 3 | Elemental Weapons | Moved up from row 5 |
| 11 points | Shamanistic Focus | A large percentage off Shocks and Lightning Shield |
| Row not given | Anticipation | Twice the Dodge chance |
| Row not given | Toughness | Stamina percentage, not Armor |
| Needs Mental Dexterity | Flurry | 5% attack speed per point, 25% at most, was 30% |
| 16 points | Stormstrike | Moved from 31. 8-second cooldown, was 20. Next Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning or Earth Shock deals 20% more |
| 21 points | Spirit Weapons | Was Parry. Less threat without Rockbiter Weapon, more with it |
| Row 5 | Mental Quickness | Spell damage and healing from a percentage of Intellect |
| Row 5 | Improved Stormstrike | A chance of mana regeneration while casting, and a chance to reset Stormstrike on Dodge or Parry |
| Row 6 | Maelstrom Weapon | Melee attacks may stack charges that cut Lightning Bolt's cast, to instant at enough ranks and charges |
| 31 points | Rage of the Farseer | 30% attack speed for 25 seconds, 3-minute cooldown; personal, not party wide |
Enhancing Totems, Two-Handed Axes and Maces, Weapon Mastery and Improved Weapon Totems are baseline.
How Blizzard says it plays
Blizzard wanted Rage of the Farseer to be "a personal cooldown for the Shaman instead of a raid or party wide event", inspired by Heroism and Bloodlust. Spirit Weapons helps threat "now that their damage is competitive". Improved Stormstrike gives "more active Stormstrike usage when serving as a temporary tank" (Blizzard).
Maelstrom Weapon's reach is a limit on purpose. Healing spells are off it to avoid a healing Enhancement, and Chain Lightning is off because "I want warrior to be the king of cleave, not enhancement shaman".
It should cost a melee Shaman nothing. "You've got free globals", the designer said.
On Oct 1 the designers called Maelstrom unfinished: with fewer than five points "you don't get an instant cast", and they named options such as 10% or 20% more damage per stack. No later note records a change.
Later expansions' version is out of reach, they said: "about 1% more damage is what a talent point is supposed to be".
In the beta, by date
- Sep 24: Rage of the Farseer lost its spell casting speed. It "was not necessary to include for the core functionality", Blizzard wrote (Blizzard).
- Oct 15: Stormstrike's cost changed to 8% of base mana from a flat 125. Its debuff is no longer consumed by a spell that misses, or by other players and pets. Flametongue and Windfury Totem now affect only players (Blizzard).
The haste removal has a story: a guildmate at BlizzCon found the best healing build ran Enhancement's 31-point talent for its spell haste. "So what was the solution to that? We took spell haste off it", a designer said.
Dungeons and raids
Blizzard says Shaman are "effective melee or spell damage dealers" and "will always be welcome in a group", and keeps Enhancement's "unique ability to generate high threat and serve as a temporary tank in small group gameplay" using Rockbiter Weapon (Blizzard). No tank tree exists; Best Tank compares the three that do. See Best DPS and Raids.
Enhancement pays the hybrid price, which Blizzard put at around 5% on Oct 1.
What creators said
These are single creators' views of an early build.
Countdown, on Sep 13, reading demo tooltips, was let down that Maelstrom works "only lightning bolt", and left the spec a TBD. The same tooltips listed Rage of the Farseer with casting speed, which Blizzard has since removed.
Sodapoppin, playing a level 20 beta on Sep 24, said "enhancement is pretty strong right now", and said elemental spells did little damage then. Blizzard has changed both trees since.
What is not known yet
- Launch numbers. Blizzard has published no launch patch notes, and the last class changes in its development notes are the build of Oct 15, 2026, with only racials after it. Not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
- Whether Maelstrom Weapon changes.
- How much spell power Enhancement gear carries at level 60. Blizzard has said it wants it, without numbers.
- Whether it works as a dungeon tank past small groups. Blizzard's own limit is "temporary".
Frequently asked questions
Does Maelstrom Weapon work on Chain Lightning in WoW Forever? No. Blizzard limits it to Lightning Bolt.
Is Bloodlust in WoW Forever? Not as a group spell. Rage of the Farseer, Enhancement's 31-point talent, is a personal 30% attack speed for 25 seconds.
Do Enhancement Shaman want spell power in WoW Forever? Yes, a designer said on Oct 1, 2026, for Shocks and Lightning Bolt.
Can Enhancement Shaman tank? Only as "a temporary tank in small group gameplay", Blizzard says, with Rockbiter Weapon and Spirit Weapons.
