Feral Druid
Feral Druid in World of Warcraft: Forever: two 16-point talents, Shifting Power for cats at 55% of base mana and Primal Bite for bears, Feral Charge at 11, Leader of the Pack at 21, Berserk at 31, Thick Hide and Defense, and how Blizzard says one tree tanks and deals damage.
Feral Druid in World of Warcraft: Forever is one tree for tanks and melee damage, with two 16-point talents side by side: Shifting Power for cats and Primal Bite for bears. On the podcast of Oct 1, 2026 a designer described Shifting Power as spending the mana of a shift into Cat Form for 40 Energy, on a 16-second cooldown "but it goes down to eight with talents". Forms, potions and shapeshift changes are on Druid; tanks are compared on Best Tank. Forever launches on Nov 4, 2026.

How Blizzard says it plays
Thick Hide "causes Druid tanks to now gain benefit from Defense skill items similar to other tank classes". Blizzard chose Primal Bite "instead of Mangle". Baseline moves support the tree: Lacerate at level 42 stacks 5 times over 15 seconds with high threat, Swipe strikes 3 targets and Frenzied Regeneration can heal up to 100% of maximum health with enough Rage (Blizzard).
Why 40 and not 60: Energy keeps regenerating, so a larger gain would overcap. It also pulls in Innervate and mana potions, and "It makes int matter on your gear again".
The cost is real. The designer expects players to say "I'm out of mana".
Feral's healing stays small by choice: "We want you to need other players". The notes of Oct 8 did add a little, through Natural Instinct.
In the beta, by date
- Sep 24: Mangle renamed Primal Bite, since "Its signature debuff has been removed". Primal Fury renamed Blood Frenzy (Blizzard).
- Oct 1: Tiger's Fury and King of the Jungle removed, Shifting Power and Improved Shifting Power added, Primal Bite's threat roughly doubled, Swipe fixed to gain 3% of Attack Power, all forms immune to Disarm, critical strikes in bear forms 75% more Rage (Blizzard).
- Oct 8: Bear and Dire Bear threat bonus raised to 50%, critical strike Rage to 100%. Demoralizing Roar generates threat. Natural Instinct added healing. Thick Hide rebuilt in code. Cat Form's maximum health bug fixed (Blizzard).
- Oct 15: Leader of the Pack made raid wide and melee and ranged only. Faerie Fire generates threat in bear forms. Furor keeps Energy through Bear Form. Shred rank 1 moved to level 20, from 22, because Shredding Attacks could be learned first. Several talents that failed to apply on login fixed (Blizzard).
Bears shared the Warrior's Rage bug. Blizzard's designer said "I've been tanking as a bear in dungeons and I feel it, too", a week before the fix.
Dungeons and raids
Blizzard says Druids are "fully capable tanks and damage dealers, but lack the extended utility toolkits found on Rogues, Warriors, or Mages", and "will need to rely on others to provide the complete toolkit needed for raids and dungeons" (Blizzard). Leader of the Pack has covered a whole raid since Oct 15. See Raids and Dungeons.
Blizzard's dungeon designers expect a Druid who is not "super invested in feral" to tank early dungeons, as in the original game, through the 30s and 40s.
One of the podcast's hosts summed up the hybrid value: "They just go bear and they off tank." Blizzard's guests agreed.
What creators said
Riyani, on Sep 14, called the bear tank "the simplest in terms of itemization, builds, and play style", which Riyani said is not necessarily bad. The demo build had Mangle and King of the Jungle.
Sodapoppin, a Druid player, said on Sep 24 "feral druid, I don't see being a good PvP spec". One creator's view; see Best PvP Class.
Cajato, reading a community calculator, gave Thick Hide's first point as base armor equal to level plus about two thirds of a point per Defense above five times level, and declined to compute a total. Blizzard has published no formula.
What is not known yet
- Launch numbers. Blizzard has published no launch patch notes, and the last class changes in its development notes are the build of Oct 15, 2026, with only racials after it. Not known as of Oct 31, 2026.
- How much of Feral's damage Blizzard's promised balance pass will take. Blizzard has said only that hybrids get trims when buffed.
- Shifting Power's place at level 60, where it ties up Innervate and mana a raid may want for Rebirth, as a designer flagged.
- The Energy and critical strike numbers for each rank. Blizzard's article gives few of them.
