Differences From Classic
What World of Warcraft: Forever changes that a WoW Classic player will notice: the Classic and Enhanced presets, a new interface, spell ranks and wands, mounts, skinning, racials and the things that stayed the same.
World of Warcraft: Forever plays at Classic's pace to level 60, but a Classic player will notice one combined hit stat, a new first-login preset, a mount cost moved to training and reworked talents, racials and items. Blizzard calls the old split hit "awkward" for hybrids. This page answers what players ask; the row-by-row table is on Forever vs Classic vs Modern WoW.
Quick facts
| Level cap | 60, in Forever and WoW Classic |
| Flying and summoning stones | None in Forever, as in original Classic |
| First login | Choose the Classic or Enhanced preset (Blizzard) |
| Character models | Standard or HD per character (Blizzard) |
| New content | Three zones, over 1,000 quests, nine dungeons, two raids at launch |
| Realm list | None: rulesets instead |
Can it look like Classic?
Mostly, and you choose. Blizzard's Classic preset starts with standard-definition models, quest markers off, one-bag off, transmog off, camera-turn key binds and the Classic screen layout; you can change each later under Options (Blizzard, Oct 29, 2026). The unit frames and cast bar still differ from Classic's: Xaryu said on the Sep 24 podcast he would fix those with an addon. See Addons and Graphics and Visuals.
What plays differently
- Spell ranks. Low ranks of a spell now give less bonus from Spell Damage and Healing and a lower chance to trigger talents; a Rank 1 Frostbolt at level 60 has "a 0% chance" of a Frostbite activation (beta, Oct 1, 2026). Classic's Rank 1 trick is gone, and Mages got Frost Blast instead.
- Wands and Auto Shot. Both make you stand still for half a second, "matching early versions" of the game (beta, Oct 15). Wands take no bonus from spell damage (beta, Sep 24).
- Mounts. Training carries the cost. See Mounts and Riding.
- Weapon racials. Removed for good; Blizzard says it is "not healthy" for loot to be judged through required weapon types (Oct 26, 2026). See Races and Racials.
- Dual Specialization. Planned at level 40. See Talent Respec and Builds.
- Professions. Their own window on K, over 600 new recipes and a reagent bag slot. See Professions.
What Blizzard deliberately kept
Blizzard restored some Classic behavior during the beta: only your own level counts for party experience, creatures with no loot stay interactable, creatures skin once, and shapeshift forms ignore Disarm. Meeting stones do not summon. See Guilds and Grouping. Classic's 300 profession skill stays, according to Warcraft Tavern.
Frequently asked questions
Is WoW Forever the same as WoW Classic? No. It starts from the original game and adds zones, quests, dungeons, raids and reworked classes, staying at level 60.
Can I turn off the new graphics and HD models? Models yes, per character, and the Classic preset starts with them off. Environmental lighting is covered on Graphics and Visuals.
Do my Classic characters carry over? Blizzard has announced no way to move them, and its starter guide has you begin at level 1. See Returning Players Guide.
Does downranking still work in WoW Forever? You can still cast low ranks, but Blizzard says ranks far below your level get less from spell power and have a reduced chance to trigger class effects.
