Differences From Modern WoW
What World of Warcraft: Forever changes that a modern WoW player will notice: level 60 for good, no flying, no automatic group finder, slower combat and leveling, and what it shares, such as subscription, addon limits and the built-in damage meter.
World of Warcraft: Forever stops at level 60, has no flying and no automatic group finder, and Blizzard is "not planning around future level cap increases that invalidate your accomplishments", while modern WoW's Midnight is at 90 with Skyriding. Your subscription or Game Time covers both, and a new Forever character begins at level 1. This page answers what modern players ask; the row-by-row table is on Forever vs Classic vs Modern WoW.
Quick facts
| Level cap | 60 in Forever; 90 in Midnight |
| Flying | None in Forever |
| Level scaling | None in Forever |
| Group finder | Lists groups only; no teleport or matching |
| Housing, Delves, Prey | Modern WoW's, not Forever's |
| Addon limits | Forever follows Midnight's (Icy Veins) |
| Price | Same subscription or Game Time (Blizzard) |
What feels slower
Combat keeps Classic's pace: "It's important to us that we do not change how that combat feels", Blizzard said, with a solo kill taking about 15 seconds and tanks holding three or four targets. Talents use Classic's trees, rather than modern WoW's. See Classes and Talents.
Travel is part of the game. There is no teleport to a dungeon, so groups walk (Guilds and Grouping); the first mount needs level 40 and training (Mounts and Riding). Only rulesets exist, with no realm choice (Rulesets). Gear from a raid stays useful, since no cap increase is planned; see Items and Stats.
What will feel familiar
Forever borrows from modern WoW. Blizzard's Enhanced preset starts with HD models, quest points of interest, one-bag and transmog on; you can change each under Options. Forever shares "Mainline WoW's UI architecture", and it has a built-in damage meter and Cooldown Manager (Addons). Its transmog window should look familiar to Midnight players, though limited to the same armor type (Transmogrification). Reagent bags and a Professions window are there too (Professions).
Frequently asked questions
Is WoW Forever part of modern WoW? It is included in the same subscription, and installed from Battle.net as its own game version, with its own continuity.
Do my modern WoW characters carry over? Blizzard has announced no way to move them, and its starter guide has you begin at level 1; see Returning Players Guide.
Does Forever have Mythic+, Delves or housing? Blizzard lists no such feature for Forever. Its systems are Camping, Legacy, over 600 new recipes and battlegrounds.
